April 24 20122012-04-24Photograph of an evening ritual on a raised dais. Two seated figures sit on ornate gilded thrones: on the left, an older man with a shaved head and a red tilak, wearing an orange-saffron cloth and a long beaded mala with a gold pendant; in the centre, a figure in orange-red robes with a long beaded necklace and a garland, seated before a smoking lamp. A priest standing at right in white dhoti and shawl with gold borders holds a ceremonial implement over the central figure amid smoke. A second priest in white sits in front, tending a flame and offerings. Flowers, a kalasha-like arrangement and a lit lamp stand at left. Devotees in white and colourful saris watch from the right in the dim hall.2012-04-24April 24 20122012-04-24Evening ritual fire scene on a dim open-sided pavilion. Seated on ornate gold thrones with maroon cushions are two men: on the left an older man in saffron-orange cloth with a gold-beaded mala and a forehead mark, and in the centre a smiling figure with long dark hair, orange robe, gold-beaded rudraksha-style mala and a bindi, who could be a person based on the long swept hair, saffron garments, ornate gold necklace and throne cues. A priest in white dhoti with gold border pours an offering from a vessel at the top right. A seated priest in white cloth faces the fire pit in the foreground, where a homa fire burns on a raised platform with a small oil lamp and brass bowl nearby. Yellow flower garlands and a green-and-red cloth lie at the left edge.2012-04-24April 24 20122012-04-24Night-time ritual photograph under a dark roof structure with a fire pit in the foreground. A man with long swept-back dark hair, wearing an orange-red saffron wrap, a long gold-beaded necklace and malas, sits on an ornate gold throne with red upholstery, smiling with hands resting on the armrests. Beside him, a second seated man in orange-brown robes, shaved-headed with a red tilak, wears a layered mala and gold chain and also sits on a gold throne. In front, a priest in white dhoti bends toward the flames while another person in white clothes sits cross-legged near a brass bowl. Flowers and a green cloth appear at left, and a printed banner hangs behind.2012-04-24April 24 20122012-04-24Evening ritual outdoors at a garden shrine. A man in saffron-orange robes with a rudraksha mala and a gold pendant sits upright on an ornate red throne with gold trim and a gold crown finial, centred and gazing forward. Beside him, a man in saffron cloth kneels on the right, and a woman in a yellow sari stands in the background. In the foreground, a priest with a shaved head and white dhoti with red border sits with his back to the camera, facing a low stone platform laden with brass bowls, a lamp, flowers, fruit, coconut and banana leaves. Palms and flowering shrubs surround the scene at night. The seated figure on the throne has distinctive rudraksha and saffron cues, and the page identifies him as a person, so this is an appearance-based probable identification.2012-04-23April 24 20122012-04-24A smoky outdoor ritual at night. A seated man in an orange-saffron robe and a long gold bead necklace sits on an ornate gold throne, eyes lowered, hands resting in his lap. In the foreground a bare-chested man in white dhoti with a gold border bends over a fire pit, tending the flames with a long-handled implement. Smoke drifts across the scene. A second man in orange and gold ornaments sits to the left, and a white signboard with a partly visible green-and-white logo stands behind the throne. The foreground is blurred.2012-04-24Night-time outdoor ritual at an ashram courtyard under string lights and trees. A man seated on an ornate gold throne with a red cushioned seat and a large gold scalloped backrest wears a maroon-red robe, a gold ceremonial necklace and bangles, with a tilak on his forehead and long dark hair. He has a person appearance from his long swept-back hair, ornate gold necklace and maroon robe, with a candidate description; the throne alone is insufficient, so identity is uncertain. Around him stand several devotees in orange and white robes and rudraksha malas, including a bare-chested priest in the foreground with white ash markings and an orange turban holding a brass ladle over a yellow altar. Women in orange saris stand to the right beside a decorated tray with flower garlands and an orange and purple cloth, with a brass lamp nearby.2017-04-16Outdoor homa at night under a decorative canopy with colourful hanging tassels and string lights. A man with long dark hair and a flower garland sits on an ornate gold and red throne, wearing a rust-coloured wrap, while a devotee kneels before him with folded hands, offering. Standing attendants in white dhotis with gold borders, one shirtless with a sacred ash mark and a gold necklace, hold a trident and offering vessels. A small fire burns in the foreground with smoke rising. Seated devotees in white line the background. Appearance-based candidate on the throne with compatible cues (long hair, garland, rust wrap, ornate seat), but the identification is not certain, so it is recorded as unsure.2017-03-16
