The priest, seen from behind in profile, wears an orange saffron cloth wrapped around the body with a sash over one shoulder, a bun of hair on top of the head, earrings and a beaded armlet, and holds a lit oil lamp in the right hand with a small silver vessel in the left. The murti sits on a gilded silver seat draped with a pink cloth, under a silver arch. Smoke rises from the flame.2018-04-18A close photograph of a priest's hand holding a silver aarti plate with five lit oil lamps, with white camphor or flower offering on the tray, during a temple ritual. Behind it are dense garlands of red, yellow and green flowers draped over a deity murti decorated with gold and jewelled ornaments, and a gilded arch in the background. The scene is a Meenakshi Tirukalyanam aarti, with the bangled wrist of the attendant visible at left.2015-04-30 +1 copiesA close photograph of an aarti in progress before a shrine framed by silver pillars and pink flower garlands. A hand holds a brass tray on which a five-flame brass lamp burns, with bright flames rising from its cups. A second hand with bangles and a ring is partly visible at the left edge, and an ornate golden shrine arch sits behind the lamp. Only the hands of the people are visible, with no faces shown.2012-05-12June 05 20122012-06-05 +1 copiesA photograph of a ritual worship scene. A person's bare forearm, wearing colourful threaded wrist bands, reaches across a metal altar to hold a brass multi-wick oil lamp with three lit flames, with smoke rising. Behind it stands a gilded metal deity murti decorated with yellow marigold and red rose garlands, with more flowers draped across the altar. A red cloth covers a nearby table and a brass vessel sits at the right edge. The setting is an indoor shrine with a warm, dim background, consistent with aarti or puja offering. No face is visible, so no individual is identified.2018-03-02A bald man seen from behind, wearing a golden-yellow and white shawl over his shoulders and a beaded mala around his neck, performs an aarti with a multi-flame brass oil lamp. Five flames rise from the lamp as he holds it over a bed of red flower petals and green leaves. Behind him a large gilded deity murti with ornate carved detailing and garlands stands in a dim hall lit by red lights. Smoke drifts upward from the lamp. The scene appears to be an evening puja. The man's appearance is not clearly identifiable from this angle, so the role is given as priest performing aarti.2018-03-02Close photo of a brass multi-branched aarti lamp with five ornate spouts, its flames burning high and bright. A hand, partly visible at the lower right, holds the lamp base, which rests on pink and white flower petals. Pink flower garlands fill the blurred background, with a brass vessel visible at the right. Lamp flame and garland imagery suggest a temple aarti.2012-06-05 +1 copiesOctober 10 20162016-10-10April 23 20182018-04-23May 26 20152015-05-26
