A photo taken from above of a floor laid with a row of stainless steel serving vessels filled with South Indian foods, including idli, sambar, coconut chutney, pongal-style rice, vegetable curries and fried snacks, on a striped cloth and orange-tinted floor. Behind them a seated woman in a yellow and orange sari with a teal blouse sits on a mat, and a person in white clothing sits at the top edge. Marigold petals and a plate of bananas appear at the top left. The scene suggests a communal offering or annadan meal.2011-11-06July 12 20162016-07-12April 17 20112011-04-17 +1 copiesA photograph of a buffet serving counter with stainless steel food trays. A long-haired man in saffron-orange robes and an orange turban, with a ceremonial bead necklace, stands at the counter serving rice from a steel bucket with a ladle while wearing clear plastic gloves. Beside him, men in white shirts and white dhotis, some with rudraksha malas, help serve food onto plates and steel trays. On the left, a person in glasses and a light shirt receives a plate of rice with a papad. Ratha-style activity is absent; this is a community meal (annadan) setting.2006-12-15 +1 copiesOctober 17 20122012-10-17August 22 20152015-08-22 +1 copiesOverhead photo of a food offering laid on an orange-cloth-covered surface scattered with yellow marigold petals and loose flowers. Four stainless steel containers hold prepared dishes: a pale creamy porridge-like preparation, white rice mixed with herbs, a golden-yellow dry grain dish flecked with curry leaves, and a dark-spiced dish at the front. Beside them, in a round metal bowl, are fried crisp rings and savoury fritters. No people are visible.2011-11-01A photograph of a food serving table set up outdoors on a dirt ground for a community meal. Steel pots and buckets hold rice, dal, sambar-style curries in deep reddish-brown, a bowl of yellow and orange flattened rice or pulao, crisp papadum or chips in a bucket, and a tray of sweet pieces. A man in white clothing holds a round leaf plate and serving spoons at the left edge, and another person in white stands at the right with a garland of orange flowers visible. Steel ladles rest in the pots, and a blue bowl of white sugar or salt sits at the front. No discourse or seated gathering is visible.2006-08-23
