Two saffron-robed men stand on the base: one in the foreground holds a copper plate, while the other holds a small brass lamp with a lit flame, with smoke rising. A third man in white dhoti and shirt stands at right with hands folded in prayer. Its base is decorated with yellow and white marigold garlands, red flowers and a small copper shrine niche holding a deity murti. In the lower left, a man with long dark hair and bare shoulders, wearing an orange cloth wrap, holds a small vessel and pours or sprinkles liquid toward the pole, as part of a flag-hoisting ritual during a dwajarohanam ceremony.2006-12-23Low-angle photograph of a tall copper ritual flagstaff or dhvaja stambha with ringed bands, topped by a small red cloth flag and fronted by a garland of yellow marigolds around its base. Two figures in saffron-orange robes stand at right, one holding a red rope that runs up to the pole. A corrugated roof edge and palm fronds frame the upper left and right, with a camera rig visible at left. The pole rises against an overcast sky.2010-11-06Photograph looking up at a tall copper flagstaff (dwaja stambha) wrapped in white cloth and banded with copper rings, topped by an orange flag and a small ornate capital. Its base is draped with yellow marigold garlands, green leaves and red-and-white flowers, and a copper-toned deity murti is set into the shrine-like base. A sky with clouds and palm fronds fills the frame. On the right edge, a person with long dark hair wearing an orange cloth, reaching toward the pole with a raised fist, is partly visible at the frame edge. The scene shows a dwajarohanam flag-hoisting ritual.2006-12-23Low-angle outdoor photograph of a tall, ornately carved copper dhvaja stambha (flagstaff) rising into a partly cloudy sky, wrapped with orange-red cords and topped with a red flag. A person in orange-saffron robes stands barefoot on a raised red platform beside the pillar, looking up, holding a small bell and a lamp-like brass vessel. Another person in orange robes stands at right, holding a shallow brass tray, with the sun flaring behind coconut palms. Stone sculptures and a dark pedestal are visible at the base, consistent with a temple-ground flag-hoisting ritual.2010-10-18 +1 copies
