A decorated boat or raised platform with a brightly garlanded shrine and a lit lamp sits in the river, with a figure in orange robes standing on it. Shirtless priests in white dhotis stand near the front, one with a sacred thread, and a plume of smoke rises from a fire. Devotees wear white, saffron and orange clothing. A cameraman with a tripod films from the foreground, and red and multicoloured umbrellas frame the edges. Wooded hills rise behind the far bank.2006-05-22Outdoor procession on a muddy riverside road beside a wide river, with a tall ornate pink and white shrine-chariot carried on wooden poles by men in orange clothes. Near the centre, a decorated palanquin or altar with garlands and flowers is carried along the causeway by a group of people in white, saffron and orange clothing. A bare-chested man in a white dhoti stands on the steps with his back to the camera, and a man in a dark jacket stands to the right. Dozens of seated devotees line both sides of the causeway, many in white kurtas, saffron and orange saris, and a few in headscarves, with bags and backpacks at their feet. Two colourful umbrellas and a red-and-gold cloth are set out on the steps. The scene suggests a procession or ghat ceremony at the river.2006-05-22May 22 20062006-05-22Evening photograph at a riverside ghat in Haridwar, with a pink stone building and a bridge behind.
