A priest in white clothing, with a red-and-black thread and metal bangles on his wrist, pours liquid from a brass ladle into a sunken fire pit where flames rise. Brass bowls, small silver vessels and yellow and purple flowers surround the altar. Behind it stands a colourful deity murti with a multi-headed cobra hood, and smoke drifts upward. A fire burns in a wooden fire pit in the foreground with bright orange flames rising on the right. A hand in a white sleeve holds a long-handled silver ladle, pouring offerings into the fire. Silver bowls hold rice and other offerings, with small metal cups nearby. Yellow marigold petals and pink flowers scatter the wooden platform. Behind the fire pit, a large coiled serpent deity murti with blue and gold markings rests on a teal-and-gold pedestal, garlanded with yellow flowers. No people are fully visible beyond the hand and arm; the scene contains one visible person.2016-09-09A homa fire burns in a yellow brick fire pit decorated with pink and white flowers. A bare-chested priest kneels at left, with white ceremonial markings on his arm and white-and-striped dhoti, pouring liquid offering from a brass ladle into the fire. Brass vessels and a brass pot sit in front, with a garlanded kalasha of yellow marigolds and red flowers behind. Smoke rises. Two other participants are partially visible at the top right.2018-01-06April 11 20182018-04-11 +1 copiesA photo of a Vedic fire ritual (homa) at close range. A person in white clothes with a gold border sits on an orange cloth, wearing gold-toned bangles, and holds a bundle of dark dried stalks over a silver-rimmed plate of the same dark pieces. Beside it, a live fire burns inside a brick fire pit whose bricks are marked with white designs and yellow flowers. Silver bowls, a small silver vessel and a kalasha-style pot sit nearby.
