A homa or yagna at an outdoor ritual platform. In the foreground, a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes kneels at a brick fire pit stacked with wood, holding a brass bell and a small brass lamp while tending the fire. Around the pit are brass pots, coconuts, bananas, and small bowls of grains, flowers and offerings arranged on a silver tray. Behind him, seated devotees in white clothes and a woman in a teal sari sit with hands folded in prayer. Behind them, a framed photograph of a woman in orange garments, garlanded with orange marigolds and a rudraksha-style mala, stands on a decorated stand, and a yellow-and-orange kalasha sits at the top right. Several children watch from the back.2010-09-11August 26 20072007-08-26 +2 copiesA temple ritual in a covered hall with pillars. In the foreground, a shaven-headed monk in saffron/orange robes sits cross-legged facing a brass or wooden ritual setup. Beside him, a man in orange cloth sits behind a low wooden stand holding a vessel, with fruit and flower offerings and leaves laid out on the floor. A bare-chested man in a white dhoti stands in the background near a pillar, and another person in white stands at the left edge. Garlands of flowers and banana leaves frame the scene.A photograph of a homa fire ritual in a simple room with blue walls. A shaved-headed priest in white clothing and an orange shawl, seated at left, extends his hand over a brick fire pit holding a burning flame. Nearby, a man in white kneels with hands pressed together in prayer, and a woman in a white sari with red blouse sits beside him, also with palms joined. Offerings of fruit, flowers and a brass vessel rest on the ground around the fire. A framed picture of a deity murti hangs on the wall above a white-draped altar with a brass kalasha and a lamp. Several people are visible at the right edge, including a man in a white shirt holding a camera.2007-09-17Outdoor ritual at a temple-like courtyard with pale buildings behind. In the foreground a shaved-headed priest in orange-saffron robes kneels before a fire pit (homa/yagna) producing smoke, with offerings, fruit and flowers arranged on the ground. Behind him, several white-clad devotees and children sit on mats, and a second man in orange stands at the right with orange and red decorations nearby. An inset in the upper right shows a second view of the same ceremony.2010-09-11A bald man in a saffron-orange robe stands at the centre of an outdoor courtyard, pouring liquid from a metal pot onto a large dark ritual object decorated with orange cloth and green garlands, seemingly an abhishekam. Around him, a crowd sits on the ground in front of him, including women in colourful saris and children, while men in white dhotis and shirts stand behind and beside him near drums or barrels. A doorway, tiled floor and palm trees form the background. A small inset portrait of a woman with a red-orange garland appears at the lower left edge of the frame.2010-09-11A photograph of an outdoor homa ritual under a thatched roof. Smoke rises from a brick-built fire pit in the foreground, with flames and glowing embers visible. Behind it a man in a saffron-orange robe with a rudraksha mala sits cross-legged, holding a ladle or offering vessel at the fire. Beside him a seated person in a blue shirt and another in a yellow garment attend the ritual. Several onlookers stand behind a bamboo fence in the background. Foreground offerings include fruit, a brass pot, a garland of flowers and a plate with marigolds on a green mat. Brass and metal vessels sit around the fire pit.August 26 20072007-08-26 +1 copiesOutdoor ritual gathering in a village setting with palm trees and thatched huts behind.
