March 11 20132013-03-11Outdoors under a partly cloudy sky with palm trees behind, a tall ornate copper flagstaff stands on a red stone base. An orange cord wraps around the pole. A man in orange saffron robes and a rudraksha mala necklace, wearing a dark cap, rests one hand on the flagstaff while standing on a red platform. To the right, a cameraman in orange clothing films him with a professional video camera. Other people are partly visible at the edges. This appears to be a dhwajarohanam flag-hoisting setting.2010-10-18 +1 copiesOctober 18 20102010-10-18 +1 copiesApril 14 20132013-04-14Low-angle photograph of a tall wooden dhwaja stambha or ceremonial flagstaff rising against an overcast grey sky, wrapped in red and orange bands with a framed picture mounted near its top. Its base is dressed with straw, green leaf garlands and flower strands. A standing man in a dark traditional dhoti, with a rudraksha mala draped over his bare upper body, grips a rope tied to the pole and pulls it upward. Coconut palms and leafy trees frame the right side, and a tin-roofed shed edges the left.2016-08-27A photograph of a copper dhvaja stambha (flagstaff) at a temple, decorated with garlands of white, yellow and red flowers and a bundle of straw-like grass tied to its top section. Two men in saffron-orange robes stand at its base; the closer man, in a red-orange sleeveless top under an orange wrap, reaches up to steady the pole with one hand while holding a rope, and the second man beside him in orange holds a rope end. Coconut palm fronds and an overcast sky form the background.2009-07-08January 11 20162016-01-11A tall copper flagstaff rises from a bronze-bordered base hung with white jasmine garlands, with a red-orange flag being hoisted on ropes. A devotee in saffron-orange robes pulls the rope high overhead while another figure in orange holds the line at right. Coconut palms, a corrugated roof edge and a cloudy sky frame the scene, and onlookers stand at the left edge. The setting suggests a flag-hoisting ritual at a temple courtyard.2011-07-15Outdoor photo at an ashram courtyard with a tall ornate copper-and-stone pillar topped by a copper finial, its octagonal shrine niche holding a golden seated figure. A standing man in rust-orange robes with yellow borders and a rudraksha mala on his chest pulls an orange rope or cord wound around the pillar's top. Another orange-robed figure stands behind him, and a shaved-headed devotee in orange sits at lower left, looking up. Yellow flower petals lie at the pillar base, with palm trees and green foliage behind, and a dark deity murti on a low orange platform at right.2013-09-11October 05 20142014-10-05A photograph of an outdoor ritual in a coconut grove. A man in an orange saffron dhoti with a gold border and a black rudraksha mala around his neck stands at left, eyes lowered, holding an orange cord wrapped around a large ornate copper kalasha-like vessel on a carved wooden stand with arched niches and a tree motif.
