Photo 11683884A dimly lit temple interior where a shaved-headed priest bare-chested in a white dhoti and marigold garlands holds a brass tray of burning camphor flame with coconut halves and offerings. Beside him another shaved priest with yellow flower garlands and a rudraksha mala watches the flame. Behind them stand devotees in white clothing, and a pillar and doorway frame the scene. The camphor flame is the brightest element in the image.2011-11-29November 29 20112011-11-29November 29 20112011-11-29A dim night-time photograph of a homa or yagna fire pit. A bright flame rises from a heap of offerings, possibly fruit, in the lower centre. Beside it a shaved-headed man in white ritual cloth with a white shawl and a garland of flowers sits near the fire. Several other people stand or sit in shadow to the right and behind him. The scene is lit mainly by the fire.2011-11-29Photograph of a dimly lit temple interior during a ritual. A decorated deity murti stands behind an altar draped with garlands of flowers and banana or leafy decoration, with strings of lights above. In the foreground, several people in dhoti sit or bend low on the floor near offerings and flower-covered items. Two bare-chested men in white dhotis stand at right, one with a white cloth draped over his shoulder, near the altar. Faces are partly obscured and the scene is crowded with dark silhouetted figures. Visible ritual activity suggests abhishekam or puja.2011-11-29Photo 11725411October 16 20102010-10-16 +1 copiesOctober 15 20102010-10-15November 29 20112011-11-29A night-time photograph of a group of men in white ritual dhotis and shawls gathered under a corrugated roof, holding their hands together in prayer or reaching toward a lit oil lamp. A man in an orange-saffron garment with a tall ornate crown, a gold-beaded necklace and rudraksha-style beads holds the brass lamp with a bright flame, passing it among devotees; smoke rises above the flame. Several men wear white dhotis with sandalwood or vibhuti marks on their foreheads and rudraksha malas. The setting suggests a lamp-lighting ritual, possibly a Kartheekai Deepam aarti.2010-11-21September 01 20112011-09-01
