A wooden finial with carved scrollwork and a metal plate sits at the top, and a red cloth flag hangs from a rope near it, with small scattered petals or fragments drifting below. The ribbed copper pole and sacred flag suggest a temple flag-hoisting ritual. No people are visible in the frame.2013-03-11August 31 20142014-08-31September 09 20112011-09-09October 07 20112011-10-07Photo of a tall copper dhvaja (flagstaff) being raised at a temple. The slender copper pole is wrapped with rope bands, topped by a small ornate canopy, with a bundle of green grass and marigold garlands at its base and orange cloth streamers fluttering near the top. A person in a red garment and red head wrap stands at the right, pulling a rope to lift the pole. A palm frond is visible at the upper right under a white sky, and a small carved deity figure sits at the base of the pillar amid yellow garlands. This appears to be a dwajarohana, the flag-hoisting rite.2011-09-09
