October 08 20132013-10-08Indoor gathering of many seated women in traditional Indian dress, holding small lit oil lamps and offering plates during what appears to be an aarti or lamp offering. Foreground woman in a rust-orange sari with a red bindi and beaded necklaces, holding a lit lamp with raised hand; beside her a woman in orange holds a lamp on a plate. Behind, women wear white and cream saris with gold borders, one in a yellow shawl, and several wear white headbands with rudraksha-style malas. Brass plates and diyas sit on the floor. No man in the saffron ritual attire is visible, so no candidate appears in the scene.2013-01-15October 11 20132013-10-11July 10 20142014-07-10March 13 20132013-03-13A photograph of a large seated group of women during a ritual gathering in a hall. Some have vermilion marks on their foreheads. Small brass vessels, a kalasha-like cup and floral offerings sit on mats on the floor in front. Some women are chanting with their mouths open, and a woman in a white headscarf and a few older women in white stand behind. No ceremonial figure is visible.2013-01-13A photograph of a large seated congregation holding small lit oil lamps in cupped hands during a group ritual. Most participants are women and girls in traditional South Indian dress: many wear maroon and gold-bordered saris or blouses, others wear white or cream sarees with gold borders, and one older woman in the foreground wears an orange sari. Several have forehead markings and gold-toned jewellery, and some wear rudraksha-style beaded necklaces. A few men and boys appear in the background. Lamps are lit throughout the crowd, and the setting is an indoor hall with a light-coloured floor. No speaker or throne is clearly visible in this frame.2013-01-15September 04 20122012-09-04February 11 20142014-02-11March 21 20132013-03-21July 13 20132013-07-13A photograph of a seated devotional gathering in a hall. In the centre, a woman with short dark hair and a red bindi wears a white shawl and holds a small brass oil lamp aloft in her right hand. Around her, women in white and orange-saffron shawls sit with brass lamps and their hands folded in prayer. In the foreground, several young girls in deep red garments with gold borders and rudraksha malas have white sandalwood forehead markings. A brass lamp flame glows at left. The mood is one of collective puja or aarti.2013-09-26
