A decorated palanquin with a gold canopy, garlands and tassels is carried above the crowd, with a shaven-headed man in saffron robes steadying it at the top. Men in white dhotis and shirts with red and rudraksha malas walk beside it, several holding long gold-topped ceremonial staffs topped with orange and red embroidered pennants. A bald man in white stands in front, and a man in orange shawl and blue shirt walks among them. Ornate red-and-blue umbrellas and orange-robed attendants frame the scene, with a crowd of onlookers behind. An ornate wooden ratha, decorated with garlands, tassels and colourful draped fabric, is carried forward by men in white dhotis and white shirts with yellow shawls. A white umbrella with a red fringe shades the chariot. Seated on the ratha, a figure in white and red garments with a head covering sits under the canopy. Behind and around it, many people in white clothes, some in saffron and orange robes, walk among the crowd. Two women in white saris stand on a raised platform at the top of the frame. Tin sheets, banana plants and a white plastic chair frame the scene.2010-01-01April 27 20122012-04-27
