A decorated tray or palanquin-like frame is heaped with yellow marigold garlands, red roses, and white flower petals, with jeweled ornamental strands and a green-bordered cloth beneath. A coconut, bananas, and a small kalasha-like vessel sit nearby on a red cloth. In the background, several men with bare upper bodies wear white dhotis with gold borders, seated with their backs to the camera. Striped and colourful garlands hang from the ceiling above.2018-04-14 +3 copiesApril 14 20182018-04-14April 29 20182018-04-29A shirtless priest with bare torso and white sacred ash marks on his arms and chest sits at left, dipping a bundle of green leaves toward a golden ornate arched shrine. Inside the shrine, a coconut rests on a red cloth backdrop beside a brass-rimmed pot, with a red and yellow marigold garland draped across the altar tray. Brass vessels, lamps and a lit oil lamp stand at right, while fruit, sweets and flower offerings lie in front. The scene looks like a ritual abhishekam or puja at a temple shrine. The priest wears a blue dhoti and beaded wrist bands. No one is identifiable as a person from this photo.2015-10-18A shaved-headed priest in white dhoti and shawl, with white sacred markings on forehead and arm and a rudraksha-style mala, sits cross-legged at night performing puja. He pours from a silver vessel onto a large black shivalinga draped in white cloth and garlanded with red and yellow flowers. Rows of smaller black lingams with white cloth and yellow flower garlands extend behind him. Silver puja vessels, a bell, a small lamp and a plate of white flowers lie on the platform, which has red-and-white striped edges. Oil lamps glow in the background.2011-04-17A seated priest with a shaved head, tilak markings and a rudraksha mala performs a ritual on a striped cloth at an outdoor setting with potted plants. He wears a white dhoti and a yellow-and-red shawl, and his hands are raised over a arrangement of kalasha pots wrapped in white cloth and decorated with yellow marigold garlands and red flowers. Brick-like blocks, a tray of coconuts, and brass vessels stand nearby. Only his appearance and role are visible, with no clear cues to identify him as a person, so the figure is described as a priest performing a puja.2016-07-18April 14 20182018-04-14 +1 copiesA photograph of a Hindu ritual in progress. Two shirtless priests sit on the floor; the front-left priest wears a white dhoti with a green-bordered cloth over his shoulder and a beaded mala, while the seated priest in the centre wears a blue dhoti and mala and holds a green leaf and small offering toward a kalasha, a brass vessel topped with a coconut and tied with red and yellow flower garlands. Behind the altar stand a gold-framed arch, brass lamps and garlanded deity murti in pink and green drapery. Stacked orange-brown bricks, marigold garlands, a silver tray with fruit and sweets, and a bowl of petals fill the foreground. A third person in white sits at the right edge. This appears to be a puja or homa-style offering, with no crowd visible.2015-10-18
