A large flame rises from a square fire pit built of stacked brick-like blocks, decorated with white and coloured rangoli-style patterns. A bare-chested priest in a blue headcloth and white dhoti stands at the right, holding his hand over the fire. Around the pit are seated priests in white dhotis and shawls, and yellow marigold garlands drape the pot-shaped vessels in front. Bananas and fruit sit on a plate near the pit, and a dark carved wooden door stands in the background.2017-09-27Night-time fire ritual (homa) at an outdoor ashram setting, smoke hanging in the air. Two fire pits lined with brick and white-dusted markings burn brightly. In the foreground, a priest with a saffron-orange turban and a gold-beaded necklace sits cross-legged tending the fire, with an orange silk cloth draped at left. Behind him, several men in white dhotis and white-and-red garments stand and sit near the fires. Trays hold marigold and white flower garlands, pink petals, oranges, bananas, coconuts and brass oil lamps.2017-05-26March 06 20162016-03-06 +1 copies
