Photo 11710112Hundreds of men and women sit in rows on red stone ghat steps beside a river, performing a ritual. Most men are bare-chested and wear white dhotis, while several women wear white saris with coloured borders. Many participants sit before small brass and black stone shivalingam-style vessels and brass pots, with lamps and leaf offerings arranged on the steps. Some hold brass items and sit in cross-legged puja postures.2016-10-16October 16 20162016-10-16February 27 20142014-02-27Photo 11710154February 15 20172017-02-15May 22 20172017-05-22 +1 copiesOctober 16 20162016-10-16Large outdoor ritual on stone ghat steps, with many participants seated in rows on red sandstone steps. Most men wear bare-chested white or cream dhotis, and several women wear white saris. Each person sits before a small brass or bronze kalasha or lamp-like vessel on a dark stone base, with hands pressed together in anjali. A single standing figure in an orange-saffron robe with long dark hair, at the lower centre, faces the crowd near the steps, and a second orange-robed person stands at right beside a camera on a tripod. The scene suggests a mass collective puja along a riverfront ghat.2016-10-16Photo 11710152May 24 20172017-05-24A large outdoor ritual gathering of men seated in rows on red-and-grey stone steps, many bare-chested or in white dhotis and shawls, with brass lamps and small containers placed on the steps. Red and saffron flags are planted among the rows, and a metal fence and green tree frame the scene. The image is a photograph; the crowd is too large to count precisely, and no single figure is clearly identifiable as a person.2016-10-16
