Photograph of an outdoor ritual gathering. Many devotees sit on mats in rows facing a raised stage with a decorated shrine and a golden deity murti under an ornate canopy. Several women in saffron and orange saris and men in orange and maroon clothing sit cross-legged; some have long dreadlocked hair. A priest in a maroon garment sits near a brass puja setup with oil lamps, flower garlands and a steel plate. A figure in a dark robe sits on a gold throne with a red cushion at the right edge, with a gold-tasselled umbrella overhead. Brass oil lamps and marigold garlands are placed in front of the attendees. Green and foliage-filled plants and red-and-white striped pillars frame the scene.2016-08-12Photo 11704460August 12 20162016-08-12 +1 copiesAugust 12 20162016-08-12August 12 20162016-08-12A photograph of a large tented ritual hall with white draped ceiling and red-trimmed edges, hanging red and gold lanterns overhead. In the foreground, many seated women in orange and saffron saris face a raised dais; their backs and long dark braids are visible. Floor mats in red, purple and striped patterns are covered with banana leaf plates of food and small cups. On the right, a gold-framed canopy with a decorative top stands above a platform where a figure in ornate red and gold garments sits, flanked by women in white and multicoloured saris holding ceremonial items. Colourful ceremonial umbrellas are arranged across the hall. A TV screen and speakers stand near the left side, and a few men in white dhotis and garlands stand at the back.2016-12-18A large crowd of women sits seated on mats under a white canopy in an open courtyard before a black stone deity murti draped with red and orange garlands. Most wear white or cream saris with gold borders and red shawls, some with orange or saffron tops, and many wear rudraksha malas. Palm trees, red-roofed buildings and camera tripods with cameras stand behind them, and a stone kalasha-like pillar is visible at left.2017-09-27October 31 20102010-10-31 +2 copiesOctober 26 20102010-10-26 +1 copiesIndoor hall with a concrete floor and white walls hung with colourful woven pillar banners in orange, blue and yellow. Many women in orange and saffron saris sit in rows on colourful striped mats in the foreground, some with hands folded. Along the stage, a seated figure in orange with a rudraksha-style garland sits before a gold-framed altar; a deity murti in a gold palanquin-style shrine is decorated with garlands. Women in white and bright saris stand to the right beside steel trays of food and leaf plates of offerings, with decorative umbrellas overhead and loudspeakers at left. The setting suggests a Maheshwara Puja style ritual with food offerings to a sannyasi.2016-12-18Outdoor ritual gathering with a sacred fire pit (homa) on a raised platform.
