Behind him stand large painted statues of a deity couple on a raised platform, one wearing a red-and-gold turban and holding a trident-like staff and a conch, the other in a green-and-gold sari with heavy gold necklaces. A red-and-white striped tent backdrop and a partly visible figure in orange robes frame the scene. Elaborate temple-like decor suggests an outdoor festival setting.2016-04-16Photo 11738313 +2 copiesJuly 12 20142014-07-12Photograph of a seated man in a saffron-orange robe with a rudraksha mala and white forehead markings, sitting at the base of large metallic statues of a deity couple. The male statue wears a red turban, a large ornate jeweled necklace with gold coins, and a golden-bordered dhoti, holding a damaru-like drum in one raised hand; the female statue wears a green and gold sari and layered diamond-style necklaces. The seated man presses his palms together in greeting, smiling. Red cloth hangs behind and rose petals lie on the platform.2016-04-16A standing man in saffron-brown robes and a wide gold-yellow waistcloth performs aarti with a lit oil lamp held in his right hand while a silver plate rests in his left. He wears a large gold-toned necklace over a rudraksha mala, gold bangles and a red tilak, and his long dark hair falls to his shoulders. Behind him, two gilded deity murti sit on a golden peetha under a gilded arch, one wearing an orange turban and the other a tall crown, both draped in heavy gold jewellery and white and red garlands. Green cloth and marigold and rose garlands frame the shrine. A partly visible person in orange at the lower left holds the plate. The man's identity is not established by appearance alone, so the scene is described by role.2013-04-14
