A tall, illuminated ratha or palanquin with a pyramidal tiered roof, orange fringed valances and a lit shrine holding a deity murti with glowing lamps moves through a dark crowd. A standing figure in pale robes stands beside the shrine, one hand raised, with a bright orange-robed figure nearby. Two large teardrop-shaped ceremonial umbrellas or standards with floral borders and bird motifs are carried at left. Many devotees in white dhotis and saffron clothing fill the foreground and background.2013-10-12January 24 20162016-01-24Photo 11700164Night procession with a large illuminated float decorated in concentric rings of white, yellow, purple and green lights, carrying a seated figure in orange-and-gold clothing under a decorated canopy. Red flags and colourful parasols with silver fringes surround the float as dense crowds in white, orange and checked clothing walk the street. Men in traditional dress and women in saris move among the crowd, some carrying flags and umbrellas. Performers in elaborate headdresses with peacock-feather fans and painted masks, and decorated horse-like figures, appear at the lower right. String lights and a few shop fronts line the street.2016-12-09September 15 20152015-09-15March 02 20132013-03-02 +1 copiesDecember 31 20152015-12-31February 20 20162016-02-20Night procession photographed at a festival with many people walking under large decorated umbrellas (chatras) in red, orange, green, yellow and white, edged with sparkling silver trim.
