A bare-footed man in rust-red and brown robes, wearing a long white jasmine garland and rudraksha beads, pulls a rope to raise the pole, with his eyes closed. Several people stand behind him, including a man in white shirt and trousers with hands folded in prayer and orange-clad attendants. Palm trees and a security camera appear in the background, with flower petals scattered on the ground.2016-09-26A man in saffron-orange robes and a red undershirt stands on a white platform beside a tall copper flagstaff, pulling a white rope with one raised hand. The copper pillar's base is wrapped in white jasmine garlands with red, yellow and orange flower strands, and small copper shrine motifs decorate its lower section. Coconut palms and a pale sky form the background, and a brass plate sits near his feet. This appears to be a dwajarohanam, the flag-hoisting rite at a temple. The man has shaved-looking short dark hair and a tilak mark, and his clothing and presence are consistent with a sannyasi performing the rite, though his identity cannot be confirmed from appearance.2009-07-08January 11 20162016-01-11 +1 copiesPhotograph of a dhwajarohanam flag-hoisting at an outdoor site under a clear sky with a coconut palm behind. A tall copper dhwaja staff with ringed bands and a bristled top rises from a copper-clad base decorated with a garland of yellow marigolds. A man in red-orange ceremonial dhoti and shawl, with a red rudraksha-style mala and a gold pendant, stands with both arms raised, gripping a rope that runs up toward the flagstaff. Beside him a man in white clothing and a bald-headed devotee in the foreground watch the hoisting, and several onlookers crowd the lower edge.2013-12-18January 11 20162016-01-11 +1 copies
