In the centre, a priest in white dhoti and a red-and-white headcloth, bare-chested, kneels beside a wooden fire pit and holds a long brass ladle or rod over the flames. Behind him, a man with a saffron shawl sits, and several other men in white dhotis and bare torsos stand nearby. On the right, a table is laid with marigold and jasmine garlands, banana leaves, brass plates and fruit. Gilded arched palanquin frames and draped cloth stand on the left. The fire is a homa with flower offerings scattered around the pit.2016-11-23January 02 20162016-01-02 +1 copiesSeptember 26 20172017-09-26 +1 copiesSeptember 26 20172017-09-26A homa fire pit is burning in an open-sided pavilion with a striped white-and-red wall behind. A bare-chested priest in a white dhoti with a red headcloth sits cross-legged at the fire, holding a long ladle over a brass vessel, while a second seated man in a saffron cloth and gold chain assists beside him. Behind them, several people in white and red dhotis and draped cloths prepare offerings. Gold-framed ceremonial arches stand at left, with garlands, fruit, brass bowls and marigold flowers on a banana leaf at right.2016-11-23Outdoor ritual at a covered open-air pavilion beside a brick fire pit, where a bare-chested priest in white dhoti with gold border and a bright orange-red turban pours an offering from a brass ladle into the flames. Other priests sit nearby in white and orange dhotis and bare chest, with rudraksha malas and gold chains, and a few attendants stand in the background. Bananas, flower petals, brass bowls, fruit and coconut-type offerings surround the fire pit, and red-and-white painted pillars and hanging bunting frame the scene. This is a homa fire ritual; no figure is clearly identifiable as a person from appearance.2016-11-23Photo 11701233 +2 copies
