June 23 20132013-06-23Night photograph of a fire ritual at a shrine. A large white-rimmed square fire pit blazes with tall orange flames at right, backed by a dark red cloth-draped altar decorated with pink and orange flowers, garlands and small deity figures. In the foreground a young person with a shaved head, seen from behind, wears an orange wrap and gold-toned beaded necklace, facing the fire. At left, another young person in an orange wrap sits cross-legged on a yellow-gold platform with white sandalwood markings on the arms, tending a brass vessel and oil lamp beside a spread of marigold-type flowers. A white cloth with gold borders hangs at the left edge. The scene suggests a homa or puja.2013-12-20June 26 20142014-06-26Five young initiates in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas sit cross-legged before a homa fire pit, with white tilak stripes on their foreheads. The central boy holds a brass ladle and a bowl of yellow liquid over the flames. Behind them, devotees in white clothes sit on the floor, some with hands folded. Brass bowls of red, yellow and white powders, kumkum and vibhuti, plus flowers and a small brass lamp, are arranged on the ritual mat in front. The setting is a dim hall with green leaves in the foreground.2013-11-19June 14 20142014-06-14April 18 20152015-04-18April 18 20152015-04-18June 07 20142014-06-07December 19 20132013-12-19 +1 copiesJune 14 20142014-06-14Outdoor temple ritual at a white stepped platform with a sunken rectangular fire pit at its centre emitting smoke. Five figures in dark-red, green and maroon garments with garlands and gold-trimmed fabric sit in a row on the upper steps, presented as deity murti or decorated figures. In the foreground, two seated priests in saffron/orange robes face the platform; the nearer one wears a beaded necklace and performs the rite with brass vessels, a bowl and an oil lamp nearby. A red cloth drapes the platform front, and a shrine with a painted deity image stands behind under a tented roof with trees beyond.
