Night photograph at a crowded riverbank during a Kumbh Mela bathing procession, lit by orange street lamps. In the left foreground an elderly sadhu in a saffron-pink robe and yellow shawl, with a white beard and a yellow head wrap, extends his arms and holds a long bamboo staff. Behind him, several naked, ash-smeared sadhus raise their arms and dance, some with long grey matted hair and orange-beaded necklaces. Devotees and sadhus in orange and saffron robes stand packed along the edges, with flags on poles in the background and photographers with long lenses along the right. The whole scene is crowded with many people.

Several naked or bare-chested sadhus are smeared with white ash, with long matted or white hair and beards, some raising arms high. A man in a dark knit cap and orange-and-white vest stands at left, and a bearded elder in a dark cap and rust-coloured cloth stands center-right. Camera operators and photographers are visible at the edges. A bare-chested figure at upper right carries long dark hair and a beard.

Night photograph of a dense crowd of naked, ash-smeared sadhus at the Kumbh Mela, gathered on a paved road under orange sodium street lamps and hazy sky. Many men have grey-white ash covering their bodies and long matted hair or beards; a bearded sadhu in the centre wears orange-red rudraksha beads and a white necklace while raising his hands. A bare-skinned figure with long blonde hair stands at right, and several people in saffron and orange cloth stand further back. A photographer with a large camera lens is visible at the right edge, and a man's raised arm with bangles appears at the upper left. The crowd is far larger than the countable figures, so this is best counted as a large group.

Night photograph of a huge crowd at a Kumbh Mela bathing area, lit by rows of orange street lamps under hazy orange sky. Many men are nearly unclothed and covered in white ash, walking barefoot across a mat-covered ground toward the water. Several long-haired sadhus wear orange and saffron cloths; one bearded elder on the left wears a white turban and orange shawl. A bare-bodied man in the centre wears a yellow marigold garland. a person's presence is not verifiable from appearance here, so no candidate is marked. Dozens of people are visible across the scene.
