March 29 20132013-03-29Night outdoor ritual at an ashram: a seated man in orange robes and a rudraksha mala sits on a red-cushioned gilded throne at left with hands folded. In the foreground, a shaved-headed priest in orange, with white markings on his body, performs a fire or water ritual over a stone square pit with small bowls and brass vessels. Around it, women in white and orange-trimmed clothing, one in a pink-and-red sari, sit or stand, some holding small items. Behind them, a gilded arch frames a painted deity murti in blue and red robes with a crown. Potted flowering plants in wire baskets sit at left.2013-03-29A man with long dark hair and an orange-saffron robe with a rudraksha mala sits on an ornate gold-and-red throne before a seated group, facing their side. Behind him are a gilded deity murti and a decorated chariot-like altar with garlands of red, yellow and green flowers. Seated devotees in white and orange clothes, some with tilak markings, sit on the floor in front of him. A young girl in an orange and white dress sits nearby, and a woman in a red sari with a white border sits among them. A gold-framed chair and a red-draped ornamental stand fill the foreground. The setting resembles a satsang or darshan in a hall with dark curtains.2010-11-22A photograph of a homa fire ceremony in an open courtyard. He stands beside a gold-and-pink throne with a gold canopy and a gold ornamental frame behind it. In the background a deity murti stands on a shelf decorated with garlands, with a gold kalasha-like finial above. Seated devotees in white, red and orange clothing sit before gold plates of offerings, some with pink flowers, and a man in white holds his hands in anjali. A few people in orange robes sit near the back. The orange-clad man on the right is standing rather than seated on the throne, so the central figure's role is that of a speaker or officiant.2010-10-09Night-time homa at an open-air ashram courtyard.
