Outdoor ceremony on wide red-painted stone steps lined with bamboo railings and banana leaves. A large empty orange-upholstered armchair sits on a landing at centre, a seat of honour with no one in it. Around it, many people in white ritual dress sit and stand: men in white kurtas and dhotis, women in white and yellow saris, some with red shawls. Several attendants carry brass trays of pink flower petals, and a man in a white dhoti and yellow shawl holds a brass lamp-like vessel. Rows of small brass pots and kalasha-style vessels line the right side, and garlands of red and yellow flowers hang on the steps. Crowd count is high, with more than 20 people visible.
