January 01 20132013-01-01Night photograph at an outdoor shrine beside stone statues of deities, one with a garland of white and orange flowers draped over it. A bare-chested young man with his back to the camera, wearing a white dhoti-style cloth stained with pink and yellow powder, gestures toward the statues. To the right, another young man in a white cloth with a gold border holds a brass oil lamp with a lit flame and a small metal vessel. Both have pink and yellow powder on their skin, and the background is dark foliage.Night photo of stone deity statues outdoors among green foliage and bamboo, decorated with marigold and orange flower garlands. A person in white ritual clothing at right holds a silver lamp with a lit flame aloft, with a small silver vessel in the other hand, performing aarti before the murtis. Small stones and earth lie at the base of the sculptures. The lit flame and garlands mark an evening puja. Only the lamp-holder's arms and white-clad body are visible; a partly visible pink-clad figure stands at the left edge.2013-01-01 +1 copiesNight-time photograph of an outdoor shrine beside dark foliage. Two grey stone deity murtis stand on a stone plinth, one garlanded with white and orange flowers. In the foreground a devotee in white dhoti kneels with his back to the camera, his bare shoulders and upper back smeared with pink and yellow powder. To the right a second man in white dhoti and white cloth over his shoulder, his face and skin also marked with coloured powder, holds a silver lamp with a lit flame in one hand and a small bell in the other. Red brick walls and scattered stones surround the shrine. The scene suggests an aarti or puja performed with the lamp. No central seated figure is visible.2013-01-01October 03 20142014-10-03December 24 20132013-12-24Night-time outdoor ritual photograph in a garden. A shaven-headed priest in white dhoti with a bare chest and gold waistband holds a lit oil lamp aloft in one hand while ringing a handbell in the other. Beside him, a devotee in saffron-orange cloth with a wrap over the shoulder stands with palms pressed together in namaskar. Behind them, three grey stone deity murtis stand on a plinth, and a low pile of rough red-brown stones is scattered with white flower petals and offerings. Dark foliage and a red wall form the background. Two physical people are visible, and the scene reads as aarti at a murti.2014-10-03January 09 20132013-01-09December 15 20112011-12-15Night photograph of a priest performing aarti before three dark grey stone deity statues set against a dark hedge and red brick wall.
