A blurred, dimly lit photograph of a crowd seen from close range. Dark silhouettes of heads and shoulders fill the foreground, with a few more figures faintly visible in the warm, low light behind them. One figure at centre has a small orange flower or garland near the hand. The image is out of focus and motion-blurred, and the background is mostly shadow and indistinct shapes.2018-04-29A blurred, dark night photograph of several people crowded together on a beach or open ground. In the foreground a bare-shouldered figure with long dark hair faces away from the camera, with a brown beaded cord visible across the shoulder. Behind, another figure with dark hair and an orange-red wrap is partly visible, and to the right a figure in a white cord or wrap stands near a bright yellow-lit area. Motion blur obscures faces and details. No a person candidate can be confidently identified from appearance, so the figures are described by role only.2018-04-29Night photograph of a crowd of sadhus and devotees moving forward on a beach or open ground with bright lights behind them. In the centre, a bare-chested man in a dark wrap and a large dark turban-like head covering holds up his hand near his face. Beside him stands a tall trident, a ceremonial staff with a metal trident head, carried upright. Around them, men wear orange, saffron and ochre cloths, white dhotis, rudraksha-style beaded necklaces and long matted or braided hair. A man on the right wears a yellow shawl over a white dhoti. The motion blur suggests a procession or ritual walk. No readable identifying text is visible on the figures.2018-04-29Night photograph of a dense crowd of naked or semi-naked ascetics, sadhus and pilgrims packed on a riverbank at the Kumbh Mela, under warm orange-lit sky. Many have ash-smeared bodies, long matted hair and beards, and some wear rudraksha or flower garlands; a man in the foreground near the centre wears an orange garland and has long dreadlocked hair. Tall bamboo poles and staves rise through the crowd, with a row of bright torches or lamps along the far bank and a boat-like structure at left. Several people wear yellow and orange cloth. The scene conveys the Maha Snan ritual bathing gathering on the Ganga.2013-02-10Dark indoor event photograph with a dense crowd of silhouetted heads in the foreground. In the centre, a figure in a saffron-orange garment with long flowing hair and a green garland stands among devotees, with flowers held near them. Red exit or stage lights glow in the blurred background of a multi-storey hall. Some hands are raised toward the figure. The a person cues are the long hair, saffron clothing and garland, though the face is obscured and the figure is distant.2017-05-26April 29 20182018-04-29February 10 20132013-02-10Night photograph at a riverbank during a large crowded bathing scene, with warm lamplight and city lights across dark water. In the foreground a shirtless man with wet dark hair faces away from the camera, his arm raised toward the crowd. Behind him many people press together on the bank, some with orange and red head coverings. Several wooden boats are tied near the shore, with boatmen standing and poling, one wearing a white helmet. Tall bamboo poles with pennants and flags stand along the water's edge.2013-02-10Night photograph on a dark beach with waves breaking in pale foam under a black sky. A close group of devotees crowds the sand in the foreground, mostly in blurred silhouette; one man in a white shirt with a gold-coloured garland stands at right, smiling, with another man beside him. The scene is dim and motion-blurred. No identifiable central figure is clearly visible.2018-04-29July 01 20142014-07-01February 10 20132013-02-10Night photograph of a dense crowd of naked, ash-smeared sadhus at the Kumbh Mela, gathered on a paved road under orange sodium street lamps and hazy sky. Many men have grey-white ash covering their bodies and long matted hair or beards; a bearded sadhu in the centre wears orange-red rudraksha beads and a white necklace while raising his hands. A bare-skinned figure with long blonde hair stands at right, and several people in saffron and orange cloth stand further back. A photographer with a large camera lens is visible at the right edge, and a man's raised arm with bangles appears at the upper left. The crowd is far larger than the countable figures, so this is best counted as a large group.2013-02-10
