July 17 20132013-07-17Night procession indoors along a red carpet runner between metal railings. A smiling man in the centre wears a large white and red flower garland, an orange robe, a gold necklace and a red bindi, and walks forward with his hands at his sides. Behind him, an attendant in white dhoti and shawl holds a decorated fringed parasol on a pole, with a second parasol and banana leaves beyond. Several saffron-robed men with rudraksha malas and tilak walk in the procession on the right, and a man in a white dhoti stands at the left edge. Shelves of books and a wall clock are visible in the background. In the foreground a priest in white dhoti with a saffron shawl and gold garland holds a brass lamp and a bell-like object, while a man in an ornate tall dark crown with a saffron robe and garland stands beside him. A man in an orange hooded jacket and orange dhoti stands to the right. Several devotees in white and orange line the sides, a few women in saffron and white saris among them. Wall posters and a clock hang on the orange walls. The scene appears to be an aarti or puja procession, with the shrine's deity murti visible at the far end.2010-12-17A procession walks along a red carpet across an open courtyard with an orange-brick wall behind. A central man in a rust-orange dhoti and shawl, wearing a heavy gold necklace, a multi-strand rudraksha mala and gold armlets, walks barefoot and carries nothing visible in his hands. Around him, young boys and girls in red and saffron robes play long brass horns and conch shells, and one boy in orange carries a brass plate of offerings topped with green leaves. A clock hangs on the wall and palm trees stand behind. Wood poles and a drum edge the frame at right. The dress and procession suggest a ritual temple walk.2013-07-17A procession moves through a whitewashed hall toward an open doorway framed by palm fronds. At the centre, a man in a plain orange sleeveless robe walks forward, one hand on a tall orange-wrapped metal urn decorated with strings of beads. Beside him, a man in an orange dhoti and shawl walks on the left. Behind them, people in white dhotis and orange or red shawls follow, a woman carries a brass plate with a green leafy offering, and an older man in white with a rudraksha mala and gold chain walks in front of a line of onlookers. A wall clock hangs above the doorway.2008-08-07
