A photograph of a shaved-headed priest in orange-red ritual garments seated cross-legged before a blazing fire pit at night, the flames lighting his face and arm. He wears a thick gold-toned bead mala around his neck and a bangle on his raised wrist, holding a small object in the raised hand while his other hand rests over a brass plate of offerings. A brass bell stands at the right edge of the fire pit, and a round metal plate hangs behind him in the dark. The setting suggests a homa or yagna ritual. The white-stone fire pit sits in the foreground, with the flames the brightest element in the frame.2011-10-01A seated man in orange-saffron robes and a long beaded necklace of gold and rudraksha-style beads pours grains or offerings with his right hand into a brick-lined fire pit. Bright flames rise from the lower right of the pit, and sparks and grains fall through the air. Behind him stand a brass vessel, a yellow-grain dish on banana leaves, a small metal lamp and a brass bell in a dim outdoor setting. The scene suggests a homa fire ritual.2011-10-01Night ritual homa at a brick fire pit with a large blazing flame. A shaved-headed priest in saffron-orange cloth and rudraksha mala kneels at the fire, holding a long ladle and pouring offerings. Beside him another priest in orange sits with a mala, and a third man in white with glasses sits at right. Brass bowls, marigold and red flower offerings, and small oil lamps lie on the bricks. Behind them devotees stand with folded hands under string lights, and a green draped stage edge is visible.2011-11-10October 01 20112011-10-01A photograph of a homa fire ritual at night in an open-air setting. A shaved-headed priest in an orange-brown saffron robe and a rudraksha mala sits on a striped cloth, using a long ladle to pour offerings into a brick-lined fire pit with tall flames. Silver bowls of grains and a small metal kalasha sit nearby. Two men in white clothing with red shawls sit at the left, partly visible, and a chair sits behind them. Sacred ash marks decorate the priest's forehead and arms.2013-03-31October 01 20112011-10-01A shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes sits on a carved wooden chair beside a square homa fire pit lined with white stone, pouring or offering from a ladle with a metal bowl at his left. He wears a gold beaded necklace and gold bangles. Behind him are brass oil lamps, kalasha pots wrapped in netting with mango-leaf and coconut tops, and a pink and blue deity murti garlanded with yellow marigolds. Lit string lights and flowers fill the background.2011-10-03July 20 20052005-07-20A large open flame rises from a homa fire pit in the foreground, with rectangular yellow-and-pink sweets or offerings arranged around its base. Behind the fire, a person in an orange-saffron robe with a gold-toned ornate necklace sits, with one hand resting on a sheet of paper. Brass lamps, a small bell, a bowl of water, red flower petals in metal dishes, and a bundle of dried twigs lie on the table. The orange robe and gold necklace are the most distinctive visible cues, but the face is cropped out, so identity is uncertain.July 29 20122012-07-29November 10 20112011-11-10Photo 11717925 +1 copies
