Outdoor evening scene at dusk with palm silhouettes behind. A bald man in orange-saffron robes with gold-bordered dhoti and shawl, wearing a beaded silver-toned necklace and bangles, stands with palms joined at chest in namaskar while pointing toward a tall wooden post beside a rough white stone slab. Behind him, a woman in a white sari with dark beaded necklace holds a silver tray with a brass bell, a small oil lamp and a metal vessel. Another person in white stands further back, and a woman in a blue polka-dot sari is at left. Dried palm fronds and green leaves hang overhead beneath a decorated canopy, and smoke drifts at left. Several seated people in yellow garments are visible at the lower edge, and a man in white stands behind him. A figure in orange-saffron silk drape and matching lower cloth, wearing a multi-strand pink and white bead necklace with a gold ornament, holds a small silver vessel in one hand and a silver bowl-shaped object in the other while walking. Beside and behind them, men in white kurtas and dhotis, one with an orange shawl, carry small items and look down. Their clothing and actions suggest a ritual procession, though no deity or specific rite is clearly visible.2006-12-22Night photograph of an aarti ritual at an outdoor pavilion lit by a tube light, with bamboo poles and green leafy branches overhead.
