Annadhan during Allahabad Kumbhamela 2013

2013-01-01 +1 copies

A dining hall where a man in an orange-saffron turban and matching orange shawl, with long dark hair and a long rudraksha mala, stands at a steel table serving food from a metal bowl to seated men. The seated men wear white shirts and lanyard badges, and one wears a pink shirt; a standing man in a white shirt and shoes holds a bowl nearby. Plates of rice, flatbread and curry sit on the table, and a crowd of people in white and light clothing stands in the background among pillars. The scene suggests annadan, a communal meal service. The page links the event to a convention at St. Peter's engineering college; the photo itself shows a meal service.

Outdoor photo of a group seated on a stone floor under a shaded courtyard. In the centre, a young man with a shaved-looking short dark hair wears orange saffron robes, a white tripundra on his forehead, a rudraksha mala and beaded necklaces, holding a small rectangular card or tablet while looking down. Facing him from the left, a bearded man in white robes with a gold border and rudraksha beads on his neck and wrists listens attentively. At the right, a woman with glasses and a tall brown wrapped turban wears white robes with gold borders. Behind them, several people in orange and white clothing sit on the ground, and a figure in white sits on a leopard-print cushioned bench. Seven people are visible in total.

Outdoor ritual scene at a temple courtyard beside a stone wall under a blue sky. A tall white-and-red striped pole stands in the centre, with a white cloth wrapped near its top, set into a base of bricks scattered with flower petals. A man with long dark hair and a full beard, wearing a rust-orange wrap and a rudraksha-style necklace, stands beside it under a large multicoloured parasol with tasselled fringe, held by a person in orange clothing. Several men in orange and saffron dhotis stand with palms joined in namaskar on the left. Other participants in white dhotis and orange shawls watch from behind, and a cameraman in white clothes films at the right edge.

A photograph of a seated gathering on a stone-tiled veranda in front of a white building with red-framed windows and wooden doors. A figure with long dark hair and a saffron/orange shawl sits on a raised seat at the centre back of the veranda, facing a crowd of about two dozen people seated on the ground, many in orange robes and others in white ritual clothes, several with shaved heads and some with hands in anjali. A video camera on a tripod in the centre records the scene, and a silver plate and brass pot sit near the foreground. Greenery and dry trees frame the background.

Devotees sit in rows on the ground before a gold-framed throne under a red and pink draped canopy, as a seated figure in orange robes, a gold crown and heavy garlands of yellow, red and purple flowers receives worship. A large golden hooded cobra sculpture rises behind the throne, with a brass lamp on a stand above. In front, several people with folded hands or raised palms sit beside brass trays of flowers and offerings, including a man in a white shirt with a black rudraksha-style mala and a woman in an orange sari. a person appears as the seated figure on the throne, identified only by the crown, orange robe and garlands; he is marked unsure here because the face is not clearly distinct. Several devotees and a white-clad attendant are visible.
