A golden ornate palanquin or ratha is carried in a procession, decorated with garlands of yellow and purple flowers and hanging tassels in green, orange, purple and red. A large orange fringed umbrella stands above it, and a golden makara-headed finial curves at the front. Seated in the palanquin is a figure in orange and gold robes, with a round blue and gold emblem fan held up by a devotee. Men in white dhotis and white shirts, some wearing yellow shawls, walk alongside and push or carry the vehicle; a crowd of onlookers fills the background among tall palm trees and a copper-coloured pillar.
