A hand held up at left carries a brass aarti plate with a bright flame rising from it, wearing a gold wristwatch, gold rings, a red thread bracelet and silver bangles. Behind it, a crowd stands in smoky light; several men wear orange and saffron robes and others wear white dhotis and grey shirts, with red seats visible at a railing. A man at right in an orange robe with a beard holds his hands together. The scene suggests an evening aarti ceremony with people gathered around.2015-01-13April 04 20182018-04-04October 15 20172017-10-15June 04 20182018-06-04 +1 copiesA brass aarti lamp with a large open flame is held in a hand in the lower left, its long stem and bell-shaped base resting on a draped peach-coloured cloth over a wooden table. Behind it, a brass plate holds a small brass bowl of red liquid and a bowl of red powder, possibly kumkum. In the upper right, a man in a white shirt with a shoulder strap raises one arm beside the table. Blurred figures and an outdoor setting appear in the background.2011-10-31A close photograph of a person in a rust-orange garment holding a bundle of dried straw or grass ablaze over a shallow round metal tray. Flames and sparks leap from the bundle, and burnt red and orange fragments lie in the tray. The person wears a braided rudraksha-style bead bracelet and a layered beaded necklace with a large pendant. The arm shows a small tattoo. The scene appears to be a fire ritual, with the lit bundle and tray. Only the arm, hand, torso and bracelet are visible, with a dark background behind the fire.2018-06-04 +1 copiesJanuary 13 20152015-01-13A photograph of a person in an orange robe holding a round silver aarti plate with a bright flame burning over red cloth and yellow flower petals against a dark background. Only the forearm, hand and orange-clad sleeve are visible, so no face is shown. The flame and offerings suggest a lamp or camphor aarti ritual.2009-10-17January 13 20152015-01-13Evening outdoor ritual photo: a large brass aarti tray with a bright flame, two small clay or brass bowls of red and yellow liquid, and scattered flower petals and garlands. A man in a white shirt leans in from the right to tend the flame. In the centre, a man wearing a marigold garland over a saffron-red garment holds the tray while people in white and orange-red clothes crowd around. Behind them is a red wall, a hill, and a flagpole. The crowd is dense, with more than twenty people visible, many with white and red tilaks on their foreheads.2018-01-16February 21 20172017-02-21A homa fire burns on a raised stone fire pit in the foreground at night. A robed priest in saffron-orange wrap and turban sits cross-legged, extending one arm over the flames while holding a brass plate of grains and a brass bowl with a ladle. Rudraksha-style bead bracelets and necklaces adorn the priest. Small brass pots, a kalasha-type vessel, and a potted plant sit beside the fire. Behind, a large seated audience dressed largely in white fills the background, softly out of focus. The scene reads as a fire ritual in progress.2017-02-21
