December 30 20062006-12-30Outdoor photo of a tall copper-clad ritual pole, a dhvaja or flagstaff, rising from a white plinth at a village site. Its top is crowned with a bundle of straw or grass and a small red-and-blue flag flutters beside it. Below, a black stone Nandi or sacred bull sits on the white base, garlanded with yellow and orange flower garlands. Coconut palms and green trees stand behind, under a clear pale sky. A strand of blue-and-white bunting is strung between palms. Several people are at the edges: a man in a white shirt and dhoti at lower left, another man at lower centre, and partially visible figures near the bottom and at the left edge. Other white plinths and wooden stakes lie on the sandy ground.2006-12-30Outdoor temple courtyard with a tall copper-coloured dhvaja flagstaff rising beside a white stone platform holding a black Shivalinga garlanded with marigolds. A seated figure in saffron-orange robes with a rudraksha mala sits in meditation on a raised circular platform in the foreground. Around the courtyard, people in white dhoti and yellow or red shawls sit by small fire circles of ash and stones, some tending flames, while others walk and sweep. Coconut palms and stone sculptures frame the scene under a pale overcast sky.2010-07-03 +1 copiesA tall copper-coloured flagstaff rises from a white stepped plinth on bare sandy ground, with a small figure in red cloth and a feathered headdress perched near its top against a clear blue sky. Its top has a tiered fitting with palm-frond ornaments and a small red flag. Beside it, a black bull statue (Nandi) draped with yellow and orange flower garlands sits on a white pedestal, and a red-and-white truck is loaded with wooden planks. Two workers in white clothes stand on the truck and near the planks. Strings of small pennant flags run between the palms in the background.2006-12-30A tall copper-coloured dhwajasthambha flagstaff stands on a white stepped plinth in an open dirt compound under a clear blue sky. Beside the base sits a black stone deity murti decorated with a yellow marigold garland, and a black lotus-shaped stone pedestal with a marigold garland stands in front. Coconut palms and tall trees frame a clear blue sky. A few men in white dhotis and shirts stand and move around the base, with one figure in white near the right trees. The scene reads as a temple or ashram precinct decorated for a festival.2007-02-16December 30 20062006-12-30Outdoor temple scene at an ashram. A tall copper dhvajastambha flagpole with a tiered finial and red cloth rises into a cloudy sky beside palm trees. In the centre, a shaved-headed man in an orange-saffron robe stands on a low wooden platform pouring liquid from a golden vessel over a black stone Nandi bull statue on a white pedestal. Several people in white dhoti and shirt clothing stand near a table with brass plates and offerings, including a woman in a white sari at the left edge and a man holding a brass pot at the right. A white ashram building with a green roof stands behind them. The scene appears to be a pradosha puja abhishekam for Nandi.2007-09-24Outdoor photograph at a temple courtyard with palm trees and a white-walled structure. A tall, slender copper-coloured dhvajasthamba (flagstaff) rises at left, topped with an ornate finial. In the centre, a bald man in a saffron-orange robe stands beside a black stone Nandi bull statue on a white plinth, pouring liquid from a metal vessel onto the Nandi, a Shiva abhishekam-style offering.
