A photo of a group of men in white dhoti and angavastram with yellow-gold borders, most bare-chested and wearing rudraksha malas, gathered in a hall with framed religious pictures on the walls. A man in the centre sits with his eyes closed while a seated man with a bare upper body and a rudraksha mala has his hand on his head in a blessing gesture, and a woman in a blue sari with a striped border stands at right. Nearby a man stands with hands in anjali mudra, another stands with arms folded, and a bearded man sits in the foreground in white.2019-01-08July 25 20172017-07-25 +1 copiesA photograph of a ceremonial scene indoors. A bare-chested devotee with a white cloth wrapped over his eyes and head bows forward while two men in white dhotis with gold borders and rudraksha malas support and hold his shoulders and head. The man on the right wears a gold necklace and gold bangles and presses a hand to the devotee's head. On the far right in the foreground, a long-haired person with a beard, gold earrings and a gold necklace, wearing an orange-brown shawl, sits or stands with bare shoulders and faces the group, their clothing and profile partly visible. Behind them several other people in white and red head coverings are visible.2016-10-16July 25 20172017-07-25A photograph of a ritual blessing in a temple hall. A shirtless man with his head bowed is held and blessed by several men in white and gold-bordered dhotis. One man on the right wears a rudraksha mala and a white shawl with gold border and places his hand on the bowed man's head; another on the left in a white dhoti with a gold border and red sash grips his shoulder. A long-haired figure in a saffron-orange cloth and gold ornaments stands in the right foreground, while other participants in the background wear red and white eye bindings. Red curtains and garlands fill the background.2016-10-16July 03 20172017-07-03May 26 20172017-05-26Photograph of a ritual initiation at an indoor hall with a red curtain and a golden trident (trishul) behind. A bare-chested young man in a white dhoti with gold borders, rudraksha malas and a sacred thread bends forward with his hands extended toward a shaved-headed boy receiving a blessing. A man in an orange-saffron robe with a heavy gold necklace and rudraksha beads holds white threads stretched over the head of a kneeling boy, while another man in orange guides them. A woman in a magenta sari and a bearded man with long swept-back hair in an orange robe with gold ornaments also take part. Several boys and young men with bare torsos and beaded necklaces watch or assist, and a striped colourful banner hangs on the wall. The scene suggests a Gayatri or Shiva deeksha initiation with ritual thread-tying.2017-02-15A photograph of a large seated group of white-clad devotees performing a ritual in a hall with orange floor mats and saffron-and-white hangings overhead. In the foreground, several men sit cross-legged with hands joined in anjali or holding a meditative pose, wearing white dhotis and shawls with red borders, rudraksha malas, and white sacred ash markings on their arms and foreheads. Brass plates with fruit, small oil lamps and offering bowls sit before them on the mat. Behind them, rows of seated devotees fill the room, many in white, with metal railings lining the aisle. The scene suggests a puja or satsang gathering.2010-11-09A large group of men seated cross-legged on an orange cloth at night, bare-chested, wearing white dhotis with gold borders and rudraksha malas, many with white forehead markings, eyes closed in meditation or chanting. Several have hands folded in anjali, and one in front holds his hands together while another reads or gestures. Behind them stand more devotees and illuminated ritual decorations, with a golden ornate structure visible at the upper right. No individual is singled out as a person; the attendees appear to be devotees and priests in ritual dress.2017-09-26 +1 copiesOctober 10 20102010-10-10January 05 20192019-01-05
