Outdoor scene at an ashram grounds beside a large granite boulder. A boy in a grey-white collared shirt and checked shorts crouches low on the grass, leaning in to adjust or pull a small red and gold miniature chariot. The chariot has a dome-shaped canopy of red fabric with yellow and blue embroidered panels, orange fringe, a gold finial on top, red garlands draped over the roof, and rows of small bells hanging from its wooden wheeled base. Behind him, a few young boys and men stand near a whitewashed circular platform with a red-cloth-wrapped object on top, beside an orange-roofed building with a tin roof and tropical plants. This is the kids' ratham being prepared for the procession.2011-08-11August 11 20112011-08-11 +1 copiesAugust 11 20112011-08-11 +1 copiesOutdoor procession scene with children in white clothing pulling a wooden ratha chariot with a red and gold canopy decorated with painted panels, red flower garlands on its top, and colourful painted wheels. A boy in white kurta with a rudraksha-style mala and a girl in white kurta hold brass cymbals, while other children in white and a child in a red top and a girl in yellow vest walk alongside a rope. Trees, rocks and a flagpole with a purple-and-saffron flag stand in bright sunlight behind them.2011-08-11 +1 copiesAugust 28 20112011-08-28 +1 copiesOutdoor procession at dusk in front of an orange-walled building with green metal roofing. At centre a richly decorated ratha or palanquin, its tiered roof covered in multicoloured embroidered cloth, red and yellow fringing, and round emblems bearing a blue bird motif. Flanking the chariot are colourful parasols and ceremonial fans on poles. Crowd members in white dhotis and kurtas, a woman in a white top, and men in shirts walk along a dirt path, while a drummer and a man playing a wind instrument stand at left. At far right a man in an orange kurta and matching dhoti stands apart, possibly the one with long hair, with a faint appearance-based label of a person only at the level of a candidate, with no clear identification.2010-12-26Outdoor evening procession on a dirt ground with a red-brick building and palm trees behind. A decorated ratha-style cart with a gold-carved front and blue cloth carries an ornate canopy hung with red and orange garlands and a green cloth, with a deity murti at its centre and trident-tipped staffs on either side. A man in an orange dhoti, bare-chested, with a tall ornate white crown and beaded necklaces, stands at the cart holding a lit flame and a cloth. A woman in a yellow-green sari stands at the rear of the cart, and a crowd of children and adults in white, orange, blue and pink clothing stands at the left, many with hands joined in namaskar. A person with a camera stands near the cart. Appearance-based candidate for a person is uncertain, so the crowd and cart are described by role; the figure at the cart is a priest or attendant in ceremonial dress.2011-10-31December 15 20112011-12-15A procession on a dirt road at dusk: men in white dhotis and shirts carry a red-and-gold palanquin draped with white flower garlands, multicoloured woven panels and a silver finial on top. A man in an orange shawl walks at left, and more people in white follow along the road beside a tree and parked car. Visible people are men and a woman in a sari.2007-12-29October 31 20112011-10-31Outdoor photo of a decorated wooden ratha or palanquin-style cart being dressed on a dusty courtyard. The canopy is draped with colourful woven textiles in orange, red, blue and white, with garlands and tassels hanging from its edges and a gold finial on top. Several men work around it: one in a white shirt stands on a wooden ladder adjusting the fabric, another in a white shirt helps from the cart, and a man in an orange-saffron robe and a white-clothed attendant stand nearby watching. A red cloth lies on the ground. Behind them is a tin-roofed shelter hung with orange and white banners, a red-brick building with a signboard and a framed notice, and palm trees.2010-12-26A decorated ceremonial vehicle stands on a dirt ground for a procession. It is a flatbed cart with two wheels visible, draped with marigold garlands and orange and purple fabric, topped by a canopy frame with a large orange umbrella-like parasol, tassels, hanging bells and multicoloured tassel decorations. Ornate golden finials curl at the front and rear of the canopy. Behind it, men in white shirts and white dhotis walk and stand near a red-striped tent and a brick wall. Two men in white uniforms stand beside the cart, one pointing toward it. No one is seated on the vehicle, and no portrait or identifiable figure appears on it.2010-01-01
