A flower-decorated empty wooden platform or throne stands outdoors in front of tiered red stone stadium-style seating. Its back is framed by vertical strings of yellow and red marigold garlands, with palm fronds and flower arrangements at the top corners and sides. Yellow and white garland swags drape along the platform's front edge. The structure is mirrored in a reflective wet ground surface below, with the low sun glowing behind it. No people are visible.2010-01-04February 17 20152015-02-17 +1 copiesA photograph of a floral-decorated ceremonial palanquin-throne set in shallow water beside stepped red stone ghats with rows of small shrines. A young person in an orange-saffron garment with a red and white flower garland sits on an ornate gold-and-red throne with a yellow floral backdrop and a fringed canopy overhead. Men and women wearing white and yellow sashes and white dhotis stand in the water around the platform, several with bare torsos and beaded necklaces, and some holding the poles or wading alongside. The scene appears to be a water procession in a ritual setting, with marigold garlands, roses and white flower strands lining the platform.2010-10-17July 29 20132013-07-29A photo of a flower-decked floating chariot (ratha) being pulled through shallow water in an outdoor temple compound. A central figure in orange robes and a white and red garland sits on a seat beneath a large orange canopy with fringe, with a second orange-robed attendant beside him. A man in orange stands on the chariot's edge holding a flower-decked support. Garlands of orange, purple and pink flowers and marigolds cover the chariot's sides. Men in white dhotis with yellow shawls wade alongside pulling ropes, and a woman in white stands in the foreground. Behind them rises a large black Shiva lingam with a metal staircase and red tiered steps. The seated central figure appears to be a person, identified by the orange robes, long hair and white-red garland with ceremonial bearing, presented as the person being honoured in the procession.2010-07-26A large dark grey Shiva linga stands on a red and white striped platform in water, draped in multicoloured marigold garlands with an arched garland frame. Several robed monks in reddish-brown and saffron clothing stand on a metal staircase and platform beside it, some holding objects. Red stepped seating and a red building are visible at right.2013-07-29December 27 20132013-12-27A large garlanded Shivalingam stands in a water tank at dusk, its dark rounded form banded with white and wrapped in multicoloured flower garlands of red, yellow, orange and green. A metal scaffold with stairs rises beside it, and several figures in light clothing stand on the platform near the top. Tiered seating with people in white is visible on the left and right, and the water reflects the striped garland base.2015-02-17 +1 copiesDecember 16 20162016-12-16 +2 copiesA floral-decorated float (ratha) carrying a seated figure in orange robes with a red cushion and gold throne moves through shallow water in front of tiered red stone steps lined with black pillar-like stands. The float is draped with white and orange-red garlands, a yellow fringed canopy overhead, and a yellow-and-red circular flower motif on the backdrop. A figure with long dark hair and a red garland, holding a microphone, sits on the throne. Around the float, many men in white dhotis and white shirts, some wearing yellow shawls and rudraksha malas, wade through the water escorting it. One figure in the foreground wears a white wrap and a rudraksha mala. This appears to be a procession during the Dasara celebrations.2010-10-17A large Shivalingam decorated with dense garlands of marigolds and yellow, orange and white flower strands stands on a square platform rising out of a still water tank. Its base is wrapped in a striped and scalloped floral skirt. Stone steps on the left lead up to a seating area with white-clad devotees sitting in groups, and a framed portrait sits at the foot of the steps. Metal scaffolding and railings surround the lingam, and low sunlight glows across the water, reflecting the structure.2015-01-13December 23 20112011-12-23
