September 08 20152015-09-08A photograph of a copper-coloured shrine structure decorated with garlands of yellow marigold flowers and red roses. Inside a niche of the shrine sits a golden seated statue of a figure with a serene face and draped robe, a statue rather than a living person. A tall palm-like stalk is tucked beside the garland. The background shows a cloudy grey sky, green trees and a palm frond on the right.2015-09-08 +1 copiesA photograph of a large copper-coloured ornamental column or pillar with a carved panel showing a tree motif, decorated with a band of bold yellow, red and purple flower garlands draped around its shaft. The base is richly carved with scrolls and foliage patterns, and a small dark stone figure of a standing attendant stands at the left edge. Tall palm trees and an overcast sky frame the scene outdoors.2009-12-17A close view of an ornate copper-coloured ceremonial pillar or stand decorated with yellow marigold and red rose garlands draped across it. Inside a niche at its centre sits a small gold-toned seated figure of a sage or teacher wearing a draped robe, shown as a statue. Dry palm-leaf whisks are tied to the sides. Behind, a tall coconut palm and green foliage fill the outdoor background. The scene looks like a temple-grounds decoration, possibly for a flag-hoisting ceremony.2015-09-08September 08 20152015-09-08July 28 20142014-07-28October 07 20102010-10-07A photograph of a dhwajarohanam, flagpole consecration, at an outdoor temple site. A large copper-coloured kalasha-topped flagpole base stands at left, wrapped in yellow and red marigold garlands with a broom-like bundle tied to it, and carved floral bands on its pedestal. At right, a bare-chested man in a dark red dhoti with a yellow border and a rudraksha mala stands beside the pillar, holding a small bell in one hand and a red flower in the other, while another person's hand offers a metal vessel from the right edge. Palm trees and greenery fill the background, and red petals are scattered on the platform.2015-09-08October 07 20102010-10-07 +1 copiesA standing priest in a maroon and gold-bordered dhoti and shawl, wearing a rudraksha mala, a marigold and red-flower garland, and a flower garland on his shoulders, rings a handheld bell while holding a small object near a tall copper dhwajasthamba (flagstaff) at Dwajarohanam in Bidadi. The copper pillar base is carved with ornamental motifs and draped with a marigold garland, and flower petals lie on the stone platform. Palm trees and greenery surround the scene, and a metal vessel is held at the right edge. Copyright and source text overlays the image. This is a photograph of a ritual at the flagstaff.2015-09-08A photograph of an outdoor temple setting with a tall copper pillar or dhwaja-style column on an orange-painted square base. Yellow marigold garlands with red flowers are draped around the column, and a small gilded figure stands in a niche on its shaft. Red and gold cloth lies at the base beside scattered petals. Palm trees and a thatched-roof structure surround the area under an overcast sky. On the right, a large banner shows printed figures and a caption. One seated person in white clothing sits at the left edge, and a few other people stand at the far left.2010-10-07February 28 20132013-02-28
