A yellow mobile crane on the left has a black cab and a hook hanging from its boom. A crane sling lifts a large carved wooden temple component, a stacked panel with many carved figures and niches, which is lit warmly by floodlights. A shirtless man in a white vest stands near the crane, watching the load. Several bright lamps light the scene.2016-04-16April 16 20162016-04-16April 16 20162016-04-16A large carved wooden temple chariot (ratha) is being prepared under a corrugated metal shelter and scaffolding frame. Its stacked tiers are densely carved with figures and ornamental motifs, and two large red-painted wooden wheels with iron rims support the red axle frame. Ropes and a wooden beam hang from the structure. On the left, a white-and-red painted temple wall stands beside a tree. At right, two people in white shirts and dhotis stand near the chariot, and a man in a white shirt is partly visible on the top tier. Motorcycles and wooden planks lie on the ground.2012-07-23Night photograph of a golden, illuminated festival chariot (ratha) decorated with multicoloured pillars wrapped in flower garlands and lights. Several men in saffron and white dhotis are at work on the structure: one in saffron stands on the platform lifting a wooden plank, another in white stands beside him, a third in saffron and a fourth in white and silver-bordered dhoti help from a metal railing at the right. A gilded lion-like figure sits at the lower left of the chariot. Lamps and string lights glow against the dark sky.2013-12-24Night photograph of a golden ratha or temple chariot decorated with multicolour flower garlands and fringed tassels, with a wooden pole being lifted at its side. Several men pull and steady the chariot: a bald man in saffron-orange cloth with a sacred thread, a man in white dhoti and shirt with a shawl pushing from the front, and a man in orange garment at the right. Golden deity statues flank the chariot, and banana leaves hang from the canopy. The scene is a procession ratha pulling.2013-12-24A large dark carved stone temple chariot, its tiers covered in dense relief sculpture of figures and deities, stands on wooden wheels in a street. Thick rope is wound around the base and metal scaffolding surrounds it, with workers standing on the frame at the top. Two women walk beside the chariot, one in a green blouse and white sari with a braid, the other in a blue sari with a red border and a flower in her hair. A man in a green checked shirt walks past on the right, and a passing bus and parked car are visible in the background.2012-05-09 +1 copiesDecember 24 20132013-12-24Night photo of a golden temple chariot (ratha) decorated with multicoloured garlands, bamboo leaves and lights, being prepared for procession.
