A photograph inside a temple shrine of a stone-walled sanctum with painted dvarapala guardian figures flanking an iron grille. Behind the grille, a black Shiva linga stands within a silver-rimmed yoni base with flowers and oil lamps around it. In the foreground, a woman in an orange sari with long curly hair stands with her hands raised near the grille in worship. To the left, a bald man in orange robes and a gold necklace bends forward, and other devotees in orange clothing stand close by. A photographer with a camera stands at the upper left. Several lamps burn on the floor at the base of the grille.

Inside a dim stone temple passage, a bare-chested temple priest in a white dhoti stands at left, facing a central figure in long saffron robes and a yellow-and-white flower garland, who holds a small brass plate or offering tray. Two other saffron-robed men with rudraksha malas stand beside him, and a crowd of devotees fills the background. In the foreground, several black stone lingams are draped with red, blue, yellow and green cloths. The central figure has long swept-back hair and gold armbands, a person by appearance, while the others appear to be priests, sannyasis or devotees.

Dim interior of a South Indian temple with ornate painted carved pillars showing elephant-headed and lion-like guardian figures in green, red and gold. A crowd of men in white shirts and dhotis and a few women move through a narrow passage. At centre, a man with a white-and-orange head band and a long saffron-orange robe holds a rudraksha mala in his hands, and beside him another man in orange robes with a shaved head walks in the procession. Overhead a fluorescent light glows above a doorway, and a hanging chain runs across the top of the frame.

A photograph inside a dark stone temple doorway at Tiruvannamalai, where a group of saffron-clad sannyasis and devotees stand with palms pressed together in prayer. In the centre, a man in a bright orange turban and orange robe, with rudraksha malas, joins his hands. Beside him, a sannyasi in deep orange with a long shawl wears gold necklaces. A bare-chested man on the right wears a white dhoti and garlands, standing before black stone deity murtis decorated with white flowers and red and blue cloth. Fluorescent light fixtures hang above and a photographer is visible at the left edge.

Interior of a dim stone temple shrine at night, with a fluorescent tube light overhead. A group of devotees in saffron and orange robes stands in a doorway with hands folded in namaskar. A central figure in an orange robe with a garland of white flowers and a gold necklace has hands pressed together in prayer; this figure's appearance does not clearly establish identity. Near the foreground, three black stone Shiva lingams are decorated with white and yellow flowers and draped in blue, red and yellow cloths. Oil lamps burn on the altar, and a metal vessel sits at lower left. Men in white dhotis and orange shawls stand behind, and a bare-chested priest with a white tilak and rudraksha mala is at right.

Photograph inside a dim stone temple corridor at night. Several devotees in saffron-orange robes with rudraksha malas stand in a line; the front figures carry a small brass vessel and a long ceremonial staff. A woman in orange with long dark hair stands at a barred grille, palms pressed together in prayer toward a niche with a deity murti. Carved stone reliefs line the wall beside her, and a yellow Tamil-language sign hangs above. Other onlookers in white and light clothing stand at the left edge.

Photograph inside a temple shrine showing a deity murti of Shiva and Parvati seated on a decorated throne, adorned with long garlands of marigolds and flowers, with a gilded arch behind. Four men in saffron-orange robes stand with their backs to the camera facing the shrine: the figure on the far right wears an orange turban and an orange wrap, the second from right has a bare head and orange robes, the third wears an orange turban and holds his hands in namaskar, and the leftmost has long dark hair in orange. A devotee in grey clothes stands at the right edge with palms joined. Offering plates with flowers, brass lamps and a stand of green bananas decorate the scene, with blue drapes behind.
