2001 - Glimpses From Various Programs

Outdoor photograph on a dry, dusty open ground in front of a wooded hill with a flagpole, under a pale hazy sky. In the centre, a person in an orange-brown garment kneels on a woven mat before a small metal cart-table holding a tray of offerings, while a person in orange robes with a beaded necklace stands beside it. Around them, men in white dhotis and white shirts stand watching, one in a light shirt and dark trousers on the left, another in a striped shirt and white dhoti on the right, and a man in orange robes walks in the background. Paved dark-red border edging runs across the ground and street lamps line the far fence.

Outdoor ritual photograph with smoke drifting across the frame before a wooded hill. A seated figure in an orange-saffron robe with a long garland of flowers around the neck and dark hair sits at a raised platform, hands over a fire or smoking offering. Standing and kneeling attendants in white dhoti and kurta clothing surround him; one white-clad man on the left holds a small object, and a figure on the right holds a long staff with yellow and black banding. Rows of decorated pots or kalasha vessels line the platform, with a red-and-white striped cloth edge and a metal-roofed building behind.

Outdoor ritual under a large banyan tree with sprawling aerial roots. A bearded man with long dark hair in a saffron-orange robe stands at center, holding a small brass bell in one hand and gesturing with the other toward a raised stone enclosure with sand. Around him, a crowd of devotees in white garments and white shawls, many wearing cream and white flower garlands, stand with palms pressed together in namaskar. A brass plate of flower petals sits at lower right. The setting is a tree-shaded courtyard with a few pillars at the left edge.

Outdoor photo at a temple courtyard with rows of stone lingams or shivalingas on bases in the background, a low orange-and-cream building, and trees and hills beyond. A group of about ten men and women stands in a loose circle. A shaved-headed man in an orange dhoti and orange shawl with a rudraksha mala stands at right, while a figure in an orange wrap with long hair and a beaded necklace stands at center. Others wear white shirts and white dhotis or trousers. The scene looks like a casual gathering rather than a formal ceremony.

Outdoor scene on a grassy field with wooded hills behind. A man with long dark hair, wearing an orange-saffron robe and a heavy gold necklace, stands at the centre, gesturing with one hand as he speaks. Around him, men in white dhotis and shirts and one in a light-coloured striped shirt stand in a loose circle. In the foreground, a man in a striped shirt and a bare-footed man in white kneel over a clay vessel on the ground, apparently at a small ritual or cremation-related act. Several bystanders wear white traditional clothing and sandals, and one man holds a mobile phone to his ear.

Outdoor photograph at a hillside site with a rocky, tree-covered hill rising behind a group of people in front of a cloudy sky. In the centre, a figure with long, swept-back dark hair wears a saffron-orange robe and a rudraksha mala, with hands together at the chest, while a shaven-headed man in an orange robe stands beside him. Around them, men in white dhotis and shirts stand and one bends forward in front of the group. On the right, a person in a blue plaid shirt faces away from the camera. Swamiji (probable) is the saffron-robed figure with long hair and rudraksha mala, identified by appearance cues only.

Outdoor scene on a dirt path beside a mango tree, with a distant hill and palm trees behind. In the centre, a figure in an orange saffron robe stands with hands clasped, facing a bare-chested man wrapped in an orange cloth with long dark hair. Around them, a group of men in white dhotis and white shirts and a woman in a peach-coloured sari stand in a loose semicircle. Orange and red flags and red plastic chairs appear at the left edge.

Outdoor photo on open dry ground with low scrub, trees and distant hills under a pale sky. A figure with long dark hair, wearing an orange saffron shawl and orange dhoti and a long beaded necklace, stands before a large flat boulder. Around the rock, a group of men in white dhotis and white shirts stand in a loose circle, one man with a hand raised to his face and another in a light blue shirt and dark trousers on the right. Swamiji (probable) appears in the orange robes with long hair and the beaded mala, standing near the boulder.

A photograph taken outdoors on a flat rooftop with a low brick parapet, with a rocky, green hill rising behind it under a hazy sky. A man in an orange robe with an orange turban and a rudraksha mala sits on a chair at the right, facing a seated group of devotees. Around a dozen people sit on the roof in front of him, mostly in white and pale clothing, including women in white and pink saris and a small child in red. A standing man in white shirt and trousers stands at the far right edge. Several seated devotees are in the foreground with their backs to the camera.
