May 30 20142014-05-30A photograph of a group of young ascetic-trainee boys and young men seated cross-legged on a white marble floor in a hall, performing a ritual with small oil lamps (diyas) held in their hands and set on brass trays. Most wear saffron-orange cloth, several have maroon shawls, rudraksha mala necklaces, and white forehead markings. Brass plates, a kalasha-like vessel, and offering items sit before them; a yellow box and red-covered books lie at the lower left. Behind them red chairs are stacked and a few adults stand in the background.2013-05-02A photograph of seated saffron-robed sannyasis holding brass oil lamps (deepa) with flames during a ritual. The foreground monk on the left wears an orange shawl, a long dark rudraksha mala and a gold bangle, and holds a lamp with both hands. Beside him, a monk with a shaved head and white vibhuti/tilak on his forehead wears a red-orange garment and a rudraksha mala, holding a lamp in one hand and a second lamp at right. A monk at far right in orange holds a small lit lamp and wears a rudraksha mala. Other seated monks in orange and maroon robes are blurred in the background. The scene suggests an aarti or lamp offering. No one is identified as a person from appearance.2013-06-17April 10 20132013-04-10June 03 20142014-06-03A photograph of a ritual gathering in a hall with red curtains and metal railings. Several hold brass oil lamps with lit flames raised toward the upper area, while others hold small brass bells and cups. Brass offering plates, flowers, a yellow cloth-covered box and small bowls sit on low silver-coloured tables in front of them.
