September 2006 - Sindhanur flood reliefA crowd of men gathers in a dusty village lane among damaged mud-brick and corrugated-roof houses, with rubble, fallen timber and a broken wooden cart wheel piled on the right. A man in a white shirt and light trousers stands at the centre, with a white car parked behind him. Many men wear white shirts and white dhotis, and some wear checked lungis. Several people face inward toward the central man, and a man in a white cap stands with his back to the camera. The scene suggests flood-relief work in a damaged village.Outdoor photograph of a village street in Sindhanur, Karnataka, with a rocky granite hillside behind collapsed and damaged houses. A green-painted shed and corrugated tin roofs sit amid piles of rubble and broken wooden planks, with a parked silver car at the centre. A crowd of about thirty men in white shirts and white dhotis stands around a man in a white shirt who gestures, while others hold cameras or watch. A few people in the back row are in lighter or colourful clothing. A bullock cart wheel lies at the right edge. Overcast daylight, dusty ground.A photograph of a rural village square at dusk beside a rocky hill with a small temple shrine on top. Many men stand in loose groups in white shirts and white dhotis or lungis, some wearing light headcloths, while several wooden bullock carts with large spoked wheels are parked and leaning in the dirt yard. Most men wear white shirts and white dhotis or lungis; others wear checked lungis, a plain shirt and a cap, and one wears a blue cloth over his shoulder. A uniformed police officer in khaki stands among them near a parked white van. A man in a blue and green shirt points toward the houses. No one is identifiable as the swami in appearance, and the scene shows flood-relief gathering in the aftermath of damage.A photograph of a dusty, unpaved village lane at the foot of a rocky red-earth hillside. A cluster of about twenty men, mostly in white shirts and white dhotis, walk and stand among parked motorcycles, a white car in the foreground and a dark hatchback behind them. Near the centre a man in an orange-saffron shawl and white dhoti stands beside a woman in a cream sari with a gold border, and a man in a light striped shirt stands at left. Modest brick and whitewashed houses, a low wall and bare trees surround the scene.2007-03-03Evening photo of a crowd gathered on a dusty village street in Sindhanur, Karnataka, with dark trees and low buildings behind. In the centre, a man in a pink polo shirt and a dark bead necklace with a small pendant reaches out and grips the arm of an older bearded man in a white vest with a tan cloth draped over his shoulder. Around them, men in white shirts and dhotis, a boy in a yellow shirt and others press close. Most men wear white shirts with white dhotis or checked lungis, and one woman in a white top and green skirt stands at left. Behind them are damaged wooden bullock-cart wheels and timber piled among corrugated-roof huts and white-washed walls, with a granite outcrop and trees behind. No one appears to be a person, so the figures are villagers at a flood-relief site in Sindhanur, Karnataka.
