Smoke or steam fills the left side, lit by bright daylight. A man in a white turban, white kurta and dhoti with an orange-and-cream shawl holds a brass plate high in one hand and stands beside a kneeling person. A second man in white with an orange shawl holds a tray of yellow and pink flowers. In the foreground, a small brass deity murti or lamp stand sits among pink and yellow flowers, white jasmine garlands, palm leaves and rangoli-style patterns on the floor. He wears a magenta-and-purple turban and a thin necklace, and his bare upper torso is visible. Fine mist or sprayed water catches the light in the air above him, and marigold-orange and yellow flowers and white offerings lie on the altar. A priest in a red dhoti and red shawl with gold-bordered edges, wearing a yellow-and-gold turban and a rudraksha mala, stands bare-chested at the right, holding a long bamboo rod over the pit. Behind him, several men in saffron-orange robes and white garments stand with hands folded or raised in devotion. Marigold and mixed flower garlands line the edge of the pit, with a small oil lamp at the left and a silver plate of petals and offerings in the foreground.2015-01-13
