March 28 20182018-03-28Night photograph of a temple-pond ritual area with stone steps lined with a large crowd of devotees, many in white and saffron, some with hands folded in prayer. In the foreground, a man in a white dhoti with gold border walks beside a bearded man in a maroon turban with a red-brown wrap and a leopard-print cloth, wearing a large gold-bead necklace and gold armlets; he is a candidate for the figure in the page's event context, with a turban, ornate gold necklace and a shawl-like wrap as cues, so the appearance is only partly consistent, and his identity is uncertain. Black stone Shiva lingams stand in rows at right beside the water steps, and red flags and bright stage lights decorate the scene.2016-12-08A crowded night photograph inside a narrow staircase of a pink-walled house with a stone-tile wall on the right. Several men in white dhotis and shirts press up the stairs, with a bald saffron-and-gold clad sannyasi in the centre of the stairs, a man in a red-and-white shawl at the lower left, and a bald man in a blue shirt pressing his palms together at the lower right. Bright flash glare washes out the left side, and a leafy vine hangs by the window.2014-06-27December 09 20162016-12-09September 23 20122012-09-23December 23 20162016-12-23December 06 20162016-12-06Night photo of a riverside or pond-side stepped ghat at an outdoor ritual. A man in a rust-red turban, leopard-print shawl over a maroon dhoti, and layered gold-bead necklaces walks down the steps, flanked by bare-chested young men in orange and maroon cloth with beaded necklaces. An attendant in a white dhoti with an orange sash carries a long rod on the left. Behind them, many people in white and orange clothing stand or sit on the red-tiled steps and along the railings, some with hands in anjali, and small brass lamps and vessels sit on the steps. Strings of coloured lights and red flags line the background. The turbaned figure's appearance is uncertain, so he is described by role only.2016-12-08October 17 20102010-10-17December 08 20162016-12-08December 02 20102010-12-02Night photograph of a large crowd seated on tiered stone steps beside a water pool, with string lights and small lamps strung along railings above. In the foreground a bare-backed man with long hair hanging down his back and a leopard-print wrap stands facing the steps, his back to the camera. Many devotees in white, pink, blue and orange clothing sit in rows, some with small oil lamps or flames at their feet. Red flags on poles and bright floodlights frame the scene.2016-12-08
