March 13 20142014-03-13A photograph of a seated ritual at a Kumbh camp: a bearded man in orange robes and a marigold garland sits in the lower left, while a sadhu in a maroon turban, bare-chested with a gold armlet and marigold garland, sits beside an older bearded sadhu in orange. At right, attendants in white and orange hold brass trays with oil lamps, and a silver tray with a lit flame and an orange envelope sits before them. The walls are pale tiled stone.2015-09-10A photograph of a row of seated sadhus in saffron and orange robes at a Kumbh Mela camp, each wearing marigold and orange garlands and rudraksha-style beads. Several men in the foreground have shaved heads and some wear orange turbans; a few hold small brass plates with flaming oil lamps and lit wicks. A large orange and red backdrop with painted deity imagery hangs behind them, and devotees in white stand in the background. The scene suggests a ritual aarti offering performed by the gathered priests.2015-09-10 +1 copiesApril 22 20162016-04-22September 10 20152015-09-10 +1 copiesA hazy photograph of a ritual flame in a bright, smoky space. A woman with long grey hair and bangles in the foreground holds a metal tray of burning fire aloft toward a man in a maroon and gold turban with gold-rimmed glasses and rudraksha mala. Around them, men in orange and red robes and tilaka marks on the forehead watch closely, one with a white-painted forehead. The scene suggests an aarti or homa offering in an assembly.2015-01-13Outdoor ritual at dawn-like hazy light: a woman in a rust-red turban with a small gold emblem and ornate beaded gold necklaces, wearing a dark embroidered garment, smiles while her hands rest over a metal tray holding a small flame. Beside her an older man in orange robes and a rudraksha mala holds a lit flame over the tray, and another older man in saffron robes with a shaved head and white beard extends his hands over the fire. Behind them, several men in orange and white robes and turbans stand watching, and a few hold palm leaves or cloth. This appears to be a fire offering or homa-style ritual.2015-01-13January 13 20152015-01-13A photograph of a seated group in a tiled, white-walled space receiving aarti from attendants holding silver trays with flaming oil lamps. In the foreground, a bearded man in orange robes and a marigold garland sits with his hand near a tray, next to a man with a maroon turban, bare upper body, gold necklace and yellow marigold garland. Behind them an older bearded man in orange with a garland sits beside a red-and-gold cloth. Attendants in white on the right hold the trays.
