A photograph of a broad flight of grey stone steps climbing toward a temple gateway under construction, wrapped in bamboo scaffolding and topped with a decorated tower. Pink domed pavilions with pillars and railings line both sides of the stairs. Several people walk on the steps: a woman in a yellow sari, a man in white, a woman in a pink sari, and a few men in light shirts and dhotis. Cloudy sky and leafy trees surround the temple complex.2008-02-11A photograph of a long, wide granite staircase leading up toward a temple gateway on a hillside under a cloudy blue sky. Pink domed pavilions with pillars and railings line both sides of the steps. A few people walk up and down the steps, including a woman in an orange sari and another in a light top and dark trousers, while stray dogs roam the lower steps. Scaffolding covers part of the gateway structure, and a blue tarpaulin hangs from a pavilion.2008-02-11March 17 20182018-03-17Outdoor photo of a group of saffron-robed sannyasis walking along a temple street in front of an ornate white temple facade. Foreground figures wear orange and saffron garments, one with a dark shawl draped over the shoulder and long dark hair. Two people in plain white clothes and one woman in a deep red sari walk among them. Behind them, a painted panel shows a deity seated under a green canopy with attendant figures, and stone steps lead up the wall. Several people are visible on the stairs and the street.2008-09-04September 04 20082008-09-04A procession of men walks through the long colonnaded entrance corridor of a South Indian temple gopuram-style gateway, its ceiling painted with circular medallions and carved with yali and lotus motifs. Most men wear white shirts and white dhotis, with a few in saffron or orange shawls at the centre. A man in a white shirt on the left holds out a hand toward a stall, and a cameraman on the right in an orange wrap films the group. Ornate sculpted shrines line the roofline above, against a bright blue sky.2007-01-12November 11 20082008-11-11Outdoor photograph at a South Indian temple courtyard with a tall, sculpted gopuram tower on the right and a thatched palm-leaf shelter on the left. A small shrine on a raised stone ledge holds a deity murti of a seated figure with a peacock beside it. A group of men in white dhotis and white shirts, several wearing saffron or orange shawls and garlands, walk and gather on stone steps, with one man in an orange turban and another in a grey shirt and dhoti standing among them. In the foreground, women with flowers in their hair face away from the camera, and a cameraman in white films the group with a handheld video camera.2006-09-24September 04 20082008-09-04September 09 20112011-09-09A photograph of a crowd descending a white-and-red striped stone staircase outdoors under trees. At centre, a figure in an orange-saffron robe with a multicoloured flower garland walks down the steps, flanked by men in white dhotis and white shirts with lanyards, and a woman in a white sari. Another person in an orange robe stands on a lower step facing him. Behind and around them, devotees in white and colourful saris and shirts climb or pause along metal handrails. A woman in orange sari stands at the left edge, and a bare-armed devotee in a blue top occupies the bottom right corner. The scene suggests a temple or ashram procession on steps.2010-02-17A group of people in saffron-orange robes descends a wide stone staircase in front of a towering gopuram of a temple, its tiers covered in white sculpted deities and figures. Several monks with shaved heads wear orange dhotis and orange shawls, with gold-coloured necklaces and beaded malas; one leads with hands folded. Two women in orange saris walk behind, and a man in a teal shirt stands at the left. A brass grille with gold-tinted scrollwork lines the right side, and a carved stone pillar marks the left. The scene reads as a temple visit with devotees in ascetic dress.2012-10-12
