October 27 20152015-10-27A photograph of a man in maroon and gold-bordered ochre sannyasi robes standing at a temple doorway with red-painted walls. He wears a maroon turban with a vermilion tilak, a yellow and multicoloured marigold garland, and a heavy gold-toned chain necklace. He wears orange sandals and holds one hand raised in a gesture. Beside him stands a shaved-headed attendant in matching maroon and gold robes. To the right, a man in white kurta and dhoti has a red tilak and marigold garland. A trident stands in the background near the doorway, and a sadhu-like figure is seated at lower right. Four people are visible.2015-07-02A photograph of a doorway decorated with marigold garlands, where a man in an orange turban and reddish-brown wrap, with a red bindi, rudraksha beads and a pink-and-white flower garland, smiles and reaches toward the door. Swamiji (probable) is wearing the orange turban, rudraksha mala and flower garland. Around him, devotees in saffron and maroon saris, a man in a grey shirt with a rudraksha mala, and men in white and dark shirts stand in an orange-walled room with a ceiling fan. A child in grey stands among them.2013-11-29A photograph of saffron-clad sannyasis outside a yellow-washed building in Varanasi. In the centre, a man in a deep red turban with a red-and-white tilak wears a marigold garland with white flower strands and a rudraksha mala; he wears a red and orange dhoti-style wrap. Beside him, a bald man in red-and-gold robes with wire-framed glasses and a rudraksha mala walks alongside. Behind them, saffron-robed men stand on concrete steps, one blowing a conch shell and another holding a brass vessel. A barred brown metal window sits in the wall. Appearance-based cues are not distinctive enough to name a person, so the central turbaned figure is described by role only.2015-10-03A smiling man in an orange-red turban and orange-saffron robe stands with palms pressed together in namaste, wearing a rudraksha bracelet on his wrist and upper arm and a long garland of red-orange marigolds, yellow flowers and white jasmine. Behind him, a shaven-headed man in orange clothing with a tilak stands nearby, and in the foreground a person in white clothing with a gold-bordered shawl faces away from the camera. Light-coloured walls and an open doorway frame the scene. Given the presentation cues of the turban, saffron robe, rudraksha and garland, the central man is a person in an in_person role, though his identity is uncertain.2015-05-01A smiling man in a rust-orange turban and rust-red robe, with a red tilak on his forehead, a multi-strand rudraksha mala and a garland of white and pink flowers, gestures toward an open white doorway. Marigold garlands in yellow and orange frame the doorway, and orange-painted walls surround the room. A woman in a dark red sari with bangles stands beside him, and a crowd of men, women and a young child in the background observe the moment.2013-11-29Indoor photograph of a doorway in a bright room with cream walls and a gold-trimmed frame. A smiling man in a rust-red dhoti and upper cloth with a gold border and a rudraksha mala stands in the doorway, both hands raised in greeting. Behind him, a man in white ritual clothes with a gold-edged cloth and another in saffron clothing with a white forehead mark stand near a green leaf garland over the door. To the left, a bald man in orange-and-gold clothing with a beaded necklace bends forward, and in the foreground a man in orange beads and glasses sits with his back to the camera, with another white-haired person at the bottom edge. A small framed picture hangs on the right wall.2014-06-22September 14 20152015-09-14May 09 20122012-05-09July 01 20142014-07-01A smiling person in a red-orange silk dhoti and wrap stands in a temple veranda with red walls, wooden beams and a hanging brass vessel. The figure wears a long, flower garland of white and yellow blooms, a gold pendant and a black hair bun with white tilak on the forehead, and gold bangles on the upper arm. Behind on the left, another person in orange-striped white dhoti stands with folded arms. A floral garland hangs on a pillar, and a brass lamp and small figurines sit on a stone ledge. Framed pictures hang on the wall. The scene suggests a ritual gathering at an ashram.2016-01-03September 14 20152015-09-14
