A photograph in near darkness of several clay oil lamps burning on a round metal tray. Five flames rise from the shallow earthen cups, lighting the rim of the tray. Behind the tray, two partly visible arms with bangles and a figure in a white shirt are reaching toward the lamps, as if offering or lighting them. The overall mood is a nighttime lamp offering at a temple, consistent with a deepam lighting. No face or identifiable a person figure is clearly visible.2006-12-04Close photograph of a ritual aarti in progress. A person in orange-saffron robes with a red-beaded bracelet and beaded necklace kneels at a low wooden table, both hands near a polished silver multi-flame aarti lamp with five lit wicks and ornate handle, set on a silver tray. Nearby stand small silver bowls with yellow powder, a silver kalasha-style pot with green leaves and a red-and-white flower, scattered rose petals, and a small oil lamp in a woven basket at left. Smoke and warm flame light fill the frame. The aarti lamp is performed as part of the ritual; no other people are visible.2015-04-30December 04 2006 - Karthikai Deepam, Tiruvannamalai2006-12-04Close photograph of a brass puja thali held in the lap of a person in orange-saffron and rudraksha mala.
