In the foreground a fire burns in a shallow dug pit of dark earth, with a puddle of water beside it. A woman in an orange sari stands at the edge of the fire. Two men in white dhotis and orange shawls hold bundles of straw near the pit. Behind them a row of seated devotees in white clothes sit on blue mats. A large painted portrait on a white wall shows a bearded figure in an orange turban and orange robes, and the wall has red-striped pillars and a structure with a roof at right. The portrait is a depiction, not a physical person in the scene.2007-02-14February 04 20172017-02-04 +1 copiesJune 13 20102010-06-13Outdoor ritual at an ashram: a circular concrete platform surrounded by a ring of grey-white ash, with an orange cloth draped over a flat wooden board on top and a small brass vessel placed beside it. On the left a man in an orange upper cloth and white dhoti walks barefoot past the ring. In the foreground a bare-chested man with long dark hair wears an orange wrap and walks away from a long trench filled with glowing embers and ash, with dry straw laid along its edge. Seated devotees in white clothes line the left side, and a few sit on mats near a low white-draped seat with sandals. Behind them a large orange-robed portrait is painted on a white wall with red stripes, showing a smiling figure in an orange turban and garland. A decorated elephant figure stands at the upper right under a shelter roof.2007-02-14January 13 20152015-01-13
