Several men in white shirts and dhotis or trousers, some in straw hats, push a wheeled cart carrying an ornate gold-coloured structure with a dark cushion. Several onlookers in casual clothes stand at the edge, including a man in a red shirt and checked lungi and another in a plaid shirt. A large painted backdrop and a grid-patterned panel are on the walls, and loose bamboo poles lie on the floor. Some carriers wear orange shawls over white kurtas. No one is clearly identifiable as a person from appearance.2007-04-19Night outdoor scene on a dirt ground. Several men are carrying a large wooden crate or box together, with a white-clad man in front wearing an orange waist sash and a man in a grey shirt and khaki trousers at left. A crowd of men in white dhotis and orange shoulder cloths lifts and carries a heavy wooden frame or litter on long poles. In the foreground, several men in white and one man in a red-orange shirt and checked lungi push and hold the poles. Behind them, a group of people in white and orange stands watching, including a bare-headed man in a white kurta with a rudraksha-style mala, several women in white saris with orange borders, and a light-haired woman in white. A white cloth canopy and a yellow machine frame stand at the left wall. Dim artificial lighting and bare concrete surfaces define the setting.2007-04-19December 22 20062006-12-22Night-time photograph of a group of men pushing or steadying a large wooden crate with plywood panels and wooden framing. Several men in white t-shirts, a grey hooded sweatshirt, a plaid shirt and a pale yellow polo shirt crowd around the crate, several with hands pressed against its side. One man in the foreground wears a dark rudraksha-style bead mala around his neck. The background is dark. A purple bird logo appears on the crate.2006-09-02A night-time outdoor procession on a dirt ground in front of a green and maroon draped backdrop. Several men in white dhotis and white shirts carry a silver palanquin with ornate silver filigree and marigold garlands; one carrier wears a grey knit cap and dark trousers, another a red headcloth. The men walk barefoot or in sandals. A bright light stands at the left edge. No clearly identifiable a person figure is visible, so this shows devotee bearers carrying a silver palanquin.2016-01-02September 05 20062006-09-05A photograph inside a bare, whitewashed hall with a concrete floor and a metal roof frame, taken at night under fluorescent light. A group of about fifteen barefoot men in white dhotis and white kurtas, many wearing orange shawls over their shoulders, lift and carry a long wooden pole together, with several hands gripping it at the top and sides. Among them a man in a pink shirt and green checked lungi and another in a beige checked shirt stand near the centre. A yellow mechanical hoist or winch stands at the left edge, and a white cloth screen on wooden posts sits behind the group. Other people in white clothes and orange shawls stand watching along the right side. The scene looks like a temple-related night procession or ritual preparation.2007-04-19A photograph inside a bare, whitewashed hall with a concrete floor and exposed steel roof trusses. A group of about fifteen men in white dhotis and white kurtas, most wearing orange shawls over their shoulders, are gathered around a large stone block, lifting and guiding a long wooden pole or beam across it. Some men are barefoot. A man in an orange-red shirt and checked lungi stands at the centre, and a figure in a white robe stands at the back right. Behind them hang a white cloth and a red-framed geometric yantra-like grid on the wall, and a yellow-brown rope lies coiled at the lower right. The scene suggests a ritual lifting or shifting of a sacred stone.2007-04-19
